I have taken measurements of what the cars actually use on the track. For ordinary pancake and set type inline magnet cars I recommend a minimum of 1 amp per lane. If you wanted to run higher level cars 2 amps per lane would be better. The recommended power supply has enough amps for almost any HO car short of a Restricted Open or Unlimited type and is hard to beat for the price. Make sure that you leave the amp control turned all the way up. You should have a separate fuse or circuit breaker for each lane, those should probably be rated at 2 amps or less.
Drag racing is a special case because what happens when the cars start up is much more important than it is with oval or road course racing. DC motors use a lot of amps when the first start up, for a high performance car that can be over 10 amps.

Same power supply I have been using on the 3 Lane MIDMO for 1/32. More than enough AMPS for any 1/32 we run. 3 years still going.
