Guess I'm getting old?

Postby TeamMadMarsupial » Thu May 02, 2013 9:48 am

I don't know if I',m getting old or sentimental or what but I've developed a bit of trepidation over something I never used to even think about.

The older Modified builds I do all require me to cut off the side body mounting extensions on the Mag or Non-Mag chassis. This was something that until recently I never gave a second thought! All of a sudden though, I find myself unwilling to apply the snips to my pile of old chassis?

So I find myself with about 150 blank chassis and a mental refusal to cause them any harm. Man, I think I've gone soft?

Anyway, I have begun looking for trashed chassis to use for my shelf queens. With this in mind, I'll put out a request. Do any of you have one of those boxes with all the stuff that you just knew was junk, but could not bring yourself to throw away? If so, I'd be interested in any junk chassis. All I need to be able to do is get the axles through and mount a blank gear plate. I don't need any electrics and I use a 3/4" round magnet in place of the arm to give the car some mass and allow it to stick to the old Altoids tins I use to paint.

Thanks

You can always use JL/AW X-Traction chassis like I did for this car. To fit the body I had to remove the chassis ears. I like to stiffen a chassis that has had the ears removed with staples.

I've used a few of those myself. They even had some they produced with no electrics, called them "Free Wheelers". I was able to pick up maybe 10 or 15 of those awhile back, but it would appear that they were not big sellers as I have not seen any up for auction for quite some time?

We allow the JL's and the AW Mag chassis to run in our Magna-Traction class so now I even hesitate to trim the body mounts on those. Keep thinking someday down the road somebody's gonna say, "I wonder why this guy cut up all these vintage chassis?".

If you're a Racer/builder, you tend to Hack..... On the other hand, a simple basement (play)racer/collector such as myself, cringes at the thought of hacking up anything Aurora ! Though I don't mind hacking up JL/AW products...
Thats my .02¢
PS- I even hate it when I find old aurora T-Jet chassis with cooling holes or slots just drilled/cut into the chassis :o *cringe*
