Rat Roddin' the making of a '56 Buick stocker

Rat Roddin' the making of a '56 Buick stocker.

Not sure if I shared this build in the past or not but came across some of my before and after pics of my '56 Buick stocker build.

I acquired this '56 Buick body from someone's junk yard parts box sale.

What better way to add variety to a field of '50's stockers than an odd ball like a '56 Buick.....

Here are some rat rod before pictures before this sows ear was transformed into a slick running silk purse filled with class winning dollars!!

I painted and decaled the body and originally set it on a revel monogram stocker chassis.

It now sits on a scalextric IRL chassis like the rest of my '50's stockers.

Enjoy!

Who wouldn't love to come across this '56 Buick barn find to rat rod around in?

Me me!!!!!

I think I like it better without the front bumper?

It gives it that old gasser look! Oh yeah!!!!

The finished product. A stocker anyone would be proud of! Sitting on the R/M stocker chassis.

In this pic you can see the '56 Buick sitting on the scaley IRL chassis with scaley T/A wheels. This baby flys now!

Some of the many '50's stockers bangin' fenders at Bolton Raceway Park!

Future projects being built currently. Gotta have that old '57 Ford thrown into the mix for good measure!

'50's stockers sitting on scalextric IRL chassis. A great field to run together and a great chassis to run under these type of bodies. Thanks to Rusty(Ourwayband) for turning me on to this idea!!!!!!

using an IRL chassis is an excellent idea. I have a couple scrap ones laying around and I also have a 56 Buick with a chopped top begging for a chassis. Could you show some photos of your mounting system?

Hey Bob!

Hope all is well with you!

Yep, the irl chassis work great.

There are many ways to mount them to the bodies.

In my last pic showing the irl chassis under the bodies you can see a couple has screws holding the chassis to the bottom of the '55 chevy interior that came with the kit that were glued directly to the bodies.

The recent builds I have done I just attached a tab to the inside sides of the body and shoe gooped the body to the chassis along the sides of the chassis with a few dabs. If I need to access the inside of the chassis to fix things I just run an exacto knife between the body and chassis to cut the shoe goo loose. I posted all the pics I had of these builds in the original post above. Hope this helps! Like I said if you like stuck down racing put a set of scalextric T/A wheels and tires on the IRL chassis with the magnets in and it turns these cars into rockets. If you like magnetless racing just run them without magnets and let them drift and beat and bang through the corners! Great fun!!!!

Hope this helps!

Thanks Wayne - I have a 55 Chevy that I just chopped the top on and painted flat black. Was looking to build a brass chassis for it but in the meantime, I'll throw an IRL under it. I also have a 56 Buick that I also got in a junkyard lot that has the roof cut off, so that would make a pretty radical bomber so I'll have to get going on that one after I mount the 55 body.
Regards,

Hey Denny!

I love all your builds also!

Such a joy to follow!

I love following them start to finish.

I think that helps people who haven't attempted a scratch build or are wanting to attempt one but are intimidated by the process to see how easy they actually are to build. The first step is to commit and jump right in.

I just wanted to show others how simple it is to build these '50's stockers with simple inexpensive chassis like the scaley IRL car chassis.

That is the best thing about this hobby is the sharing of information with others to make the hobby that much more enjoyable for everyone!!!!!

Wayne:
I just mocked up my 55 Chevy to see what it will look like. Looks pretty good - I need to finish up a couple proxy cars, then I'll finish this.

Looks awesome Bob!

A flat black '55 chevy is always a good thing!!!!

Now in regards to getting the body level on the chassis I radiused the rear wheel wells a bit to get the body down a bit in the back but that is each persons preference.

Looking good so far!!!!

Thanks for showing the pics so far!!!
