I am thinking now about doing a Figure 8 Type oval. with some elevations in it. I really like the Austin slot sar clubs track if you have ever seen it. Small foot print. I think I could do it on a 5 by 20 table. Do some scenery. I buildt large HO trains layouts before and have tons of screnery stuff. Molds for hydrocal to make cliffs Tons of woodlans scenic stuff. Also I like how a figure 8 keeps the lanes distance the same and each driver shares the same no of inner turns. Whata you think. Thanks Bob

I built mine with MDO, 3 lanes, copper tape on a 20 x 8, car battery power. I ran what I had at the time (1992) mostly old vintage stockers and '60's 1/24 cars. It's expensive and time consuming doing all that when now you can throw down modular/plastic and change things easily later on. The pieces of my old track got used in some building projects.
Absolutely loved the fig. 8, perfect for banging doors. That big heavy vintage era equipment was a hoot, Pittman 84, 85's, Strombecker Destroyers, Kemtron Mustangs, big torque. I think my young son was the only kid around that knew what a 'glue zone' was. Launch hard out of the corners and extremely short braking distances. Fun Stuff!

Well I will be using Carrera 1/24 track. I like changing track to often to ever use wood. Plus I have boat loads of Carrera. I really do not have to buy any thing to do it. Thanks

I also built a large radius oval (4lanes), keeping in mind casual drivers, and "arcade" style fun. I kept a ho road track, very technical, so I can offer both driving styles.

Of course the oval track can also offer great challenge, depending the drivers skills, but it's still easier for beginners, in my opinion.
