Replacement FRONT tires for Fly 917s, etc.

Postby Reegs » Mon Jan 05, 2015 11:37 am

The front tires on all my Fly "Classics" - Porsche 917, Lola T70, GB Chevron and Porsche 908 - are split, no doubt from age (these cars are what - eight, ten years old?).
Does anybody make a replacement tire that can take the place of the Fly tires? Don't care about the material - silicone, urethane, rich Corinthian leather - as long as they're the same size (or even a smaller o.d.) and fit on the wheels real proper-like.
Thanks.

Super Tires now has hard urethane front tires in various sizes that might work. Look for the 1400 series. There are now three new sizes that are not listed on the Super tires site, 1400R-ZG (.704" O.D.), 1401R-ZG (.734" O.D.) and 1402R-ZG (.748" O.D.).

And don't forget you can roll your own easily and relatively cheaply if you include all the tires of cars in your collections (my website tells you how):

I'll measure the wheel in the morning and email Paul and ask what tire he has that will match the wheel dimension.

Thanks Harry,

The most frequently used tire on my Fly Model Cars is the XPG-20116 and cut/sand/trim the inner sidewall if needed. It's the damn flange width that makes them tough to fit...

I use XPG on the front of all my cars, quieter running than stock rubber, and coat the treads with HardAsNails...

Most common sizes used on Fly and most other brands... XPG-20104, XPG-20105, XPG-20115, and XPG-20116 and for the larger diameter hubs XPG-19104LM, XPG-19105LM, and XPG-20105LM.

...for further information search for Tire Razor! It will become your best friend!

Thanks to all.
I've have molded my own tires. Did it a few years ago. The tires I made were for my vintage 1/24 cars (the 1/32 club I belong to is a silicone only bunch).
Even the trial sizes of Oomoo and Reoflex would be overkill for the small batch of tires that I'd need. :(

So far the only cars of mine that need replacement front tires are the Cheetah and the McLaren M20 from Carrera. They didn't dry rot they melted into a puddle.
