ROAR Race Roster / June 30th race date

Hi Bob,

I'd like to reserve #22, too. Maybe some issues with the C-type; could go with a Ferrari 166. Thanks.

I talked to John about the ease of building out the C-type and it looks like it could be a challenge because of the very narrow body and pinched-in rear end; too narrow to get a Slot.It HRS2 chassis under it. So, the Ferrari 166 will be its substitute. Thanks for the number change; so it will now be #66 for the Chaparrel and #22 for the Ferrari. Thanks.

Slot.it chassis! Yikes! those of us building on Artin or front motored Monogram chassis haven't a chance. Better rethink my approach on at least one of my entries.

There aren't many chassic bodies of this era that a Slot.it chassis will fit. Slot.it chassis are universal to all of their pods including the sidewinder and anglewinder, which makes them wide at the bushing bosses regardless of their motor orientation. The slot chassis is 1 7/16 wide at the rear wheel. Even a a big classic roadster like a Ninco Corvette is only shade under 1 7/8" on the inside of the body. That gives you only 7/16" total available space to fit both tires under including necessary clearances.

I am still hunting for where I put a couple of those old Marx / Eldon / Strombecker bodies with the bad mounting posts that need some TLC - but thinking about chassis options on those, I am kicking around trying out a couple of the D3D pods I picked up on those - figure those might work real well in that application! :)

Motor, gears, tires and weight. The rest of how its arranged wont make or brake these cars. we are just not running enough horsepower for it to matter. On my track, an Artin powered Strombecker will and has beat the pants off some of my equally powered sidewinder chassis. Good balance on a road course seems to make more difference. Just my observations at Cherokee Point.

Yup, can be challenging..............!! But, I have no chassis building skills whatsoever, so I'm sort of stuck with off-the-shelf chassis products when it comes to building out resin-bodied cars.............

Allan;

Check out some of my Honeycomb building threads, like the first one in the scratch builders section. It is really not that hard, and if you use 1/16 piano wire for the side rails you get good clearance for tires, even with a slot.it or D3D pod. If you plan it around the D3D super slim can pod, you can even fit wide tires under a narrow car.

Get a honey comb board and an 80 watt Weller iron and there will be no stopping you.

Harry, I was going to build out one of John's resin C-type Jags for the ROAR fun run. But, the body is very narrow; too narrow to comfortably fit an HRS2 chassis under it. So, I've switched "horses" and an going to be building out a Ferrari 166M instead (also John's casting). My second car is another of his bodies; a Chaparral Mk1, which doesn't have the width problem of the Jag.

Allan, Have you considered the PCS chassis? It's made to the tee for projects such as these. It's adjustable and narrow. I am not sure who of our sponsors all sells them but I am pretty sure that I saw them at Professor motors site recently and of course Pendles from over in England is a shoe-in for sourcing them.

No, I haven't seen the PCS chassis before. It looks something like the MRRC Sebring chassis. I'll have a look at it, but I do like a podded chassis and a SW motor configuration. I'm also building out a resin bodied Maserati 151/3 coupe for another proxy and it, too, is a narrow body car.
