How often do you lube the motor? My r.c. car says every hour or so. Just wondering what rule of thumb is. Thanks,Dave :flags-waveusa:

Once.

When they come out of the package; a small drop of oil on the can end at the bearing and a micro-drop of oil at the endbell end. Run the motor at 3.0V (low rpm) for 30 seconds or so, turn it end for end 2-3 times to allow the oil to get to the bearings, wipe off any extra oil on either end and that's it. If they start singing to you, then you can re-treat, but so far, none of mine have ever needed a re-treatment. Be careful with the microdrop of oil on the endbell end, if you get too much in, then it could have a negative effect on the commutator. If in doubt, leave out the endbell oil step. I get a microdrop by squeezing out a small drop of oil from a fine-tip needle applicator and placing this on a sewing needle. Let the small drop run up and down the needle until you have a place along the needle where there's an oil drop that's about 10% of the size of the original drop. Then place this against the motor shaft where it enters the endbell. That will do it.

Having just participated in the MI 24 race, I can say we (and I believe all the teams as well) ran the entire 24 hour race without reoiling the motor bushings. So as Audi1 says, just a drop on each end when you first get it, and you'll be good to go for quite awhile.
