Yes it will work but will "bind" a bit. A while back Harry came up with a solution where you "tip" the motor slightly upwards at the rear, this reduces the offset resistance.

Yes, the pinion is 1.5.

But that is not the issue. if you look at the article, the issue is the flange on the crown gear. It's made/molded like a standard gear that fits a 2 mm standard motor shaft.



So there is excess freeplay and the gear will move back and forth.



And that is why you need to sleeve at least the END on the motor shaft that sits in the crown.

All of the latest MRRC models I purchased have the standard gear out of the box. This model included.

If you are going to swap out the crown gear (due to tight clearances, for instance), the old "Fly Racing" or NSR crowns are slightly smaller in diameter and give a smoother mesh without tipping the motor.

I just mangled the gray hypoid crown on a Chaparral 2F. Looks like I need the replacement gear set.
Can you tell me if the axle ends are knurled?

The gray gears on this car and it's mate don't mesh well. My MkIVs and Cobra have black straight cut gears and mesh great. The only thing I did was put a piece of 2 mm tubing on the motor shaft and some grease on the gears.

Have the same issue with my chapperal. Since ive been told the wheels will be toay once pulled, any suggestions on a slot it gear, axel combo and aftermarket wheels to go with?
