Has anyone replaced front-motor driveshaft with a solid one?

...in particular, I'm tired of stretching the spring on the two-piece ones as I've just hosed up another on a Rev/Mono Daytona Cobra. Anyone know the type of tubing I could use on a standard can motor to make a longer, single one?

I'm told that the plastic tube on in a Bic Pen will work with a little glue.

That's right plastic tube is the ticket and I didn't even glue mine, works great!

Different pens have different sized tubes, so start tearing all the pens in the house apart. Once you find one that fits tight on the shaft, ditch the pen housing, snip the end off the tube, clean out the ink with a pipe cleaner (over the trash can), and you'll have enough tubes for 4 or 5 cars :D

Haven't done it but...I've wondered about it too - I remember seeing something about using R/C antenna tubes or Chupa Chup lolipop sticks...(why do I remember this :) )
Then heat shrink tubing was used to hold it all together. Had pictures too, so it seemed to be the solution.

I use a tubing similar to weed eater fuel line. I can send you some ASAP.

On my Monogram Daytona Cobras, the spring got replaced with silicone fuel hose. Got it at the local Hobbytown in the R/C department. Comes in several inside diameters. It is a very snug fit and forgiving of small differences of alignment.

I have used brass tubing and plastic tubing, only issue with brass tubing is if the motor has a spline but a file fixes that. I have put some heat shrink over the ends as well....

I use the plastic tube from cotton buds, you know the thingies for cleaning your ears. Must have been invented for another reason but can't think of any off hand.
