Wow, Bob. I spent hours on Ebay and missed that. They are perfect. Now I need just a few more (if I win the auction), and it looks like I am going to have to carve the ones that are flying. They will be on wires, just above the water surface.
John, I'll check the ship building sites, but casting some in resin from a master that I carve sure sounds good.

Rob, I always use the simple approach. I typed 1/32 scale pelicans. My wife showed me that years ago when using the internet. she said "just type what you are looking for" and darned if she wasn't always right! It was the first auction that popped up. Glad they can work, and i hope you win them! I would bet curio shops near the beach would net some resin ones too. I just dont live near a beach.

Great! I went to A.C. Moore today, and they had nothing. I thought sure the Audubon Park Zoo Gift Shop in New Orleans would have them. I bought my desk alligator there many years ago. Its a life sized baby.

You know how once in a while, something just "bubbles up" in your memory and you can't believe you didn't think of it before? Well, it just happened to me. I forgot I can carve with the Dremel! This afternoon, I'm going to give it a shot. Carving something small with a knife intimidated me, thinking about arthritis and razor sharp carving tools, but I can get very busy with a Dremel and not have to be constantly concerned about slicing myself up.

Rob if that doesn't do it for you , you can always try clay. Still be moldable after it hardens.
Personally my hands shake to much even trying to paint somethi g that small.

I'll try it. I thought I would start with a block and grind away everything that doesn't look like a pelican in flight, but I should have started with softer wood. This turned out to be old pine (a block from my scrap pile), and its hard as maple. I decided to go ahead and try it because the wings are so delicate anyway. It is slow sledding.

I looked at the googled charms, and there were very few the right size, and almost all of them are 2D. I found something that was perfect from mainland China, but you have to do everything but a back flip to do business with them.
