By Gad, old johnny, you're correct!
I just had a good look at my well-stocked 'Worthy Rivals' shelves in the special ops storeroom. Looked at a number of those Carrera models from that era. Reminded my of how much I like the Ford Torino, in particular the Talladega Richard Petty #43. It also reminded me that current Carrera models are my forth most favorite thing to come out of Austria so far. They follow Niki Lauda, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Apple Strudel. In fact, driving a Carrera model in the style of Niki Lauda while listening to the second half of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte Overture and wolfing down a warm apple strudel at the same time is a guilty pleasure that most folks should try at least once in their lives.
The 'find a decal' challenge we did last week did result in some great surprise finds of vintage images of some of the historic cars from the period so it proved to be a very worthwhile exercise.
