Slot car pit box

Hello all

Over the past three months, I have had my eye on a Wood Tool Chest that has been advertised at my local Costco store. This box is PERFECT for storing 1/32 scale slot cars, controllers, tools, etc. When I first saw it, the price was $109.00. But over the last few months, the price has steadily come down...$99, $79, then $59. When I called yesterday to see if there were any additional discounts available to members, they told me no. However they did tell me that as of today, the price would be lowered to $49.00. Needless to say, I went first thing and bought one.

I have attached a pic of the box along with a pic of the sku information that Costco uses. If you do have a Costco close to you, you might think about picking one up as they are discontinued and will probably go quick.

Harry, if this post violates any HRW posting rules, I apologize in advance and understand if it gets deleted as no harm was intended. I just wanted to let everyone at HRW that this opportunity exists.

None at all, cool information. I have one kinda like this that Lowe's carried. It was listed as a jewelry box but works great for cars.

For 50 bucks, that box looks great! I once ordered two similar boxes, shipped to the house, for $200 total. I opened one, and in 5 minutes called the company to send me two UPS call tags to come and take them back! The fit and finish wasn't nearly as good as the one you have. I think I'll drive the 15 minutes over to Costco and check one out.
I've got three vintage Hoffman "Pro" slot boxes from the '60's, and a few Webster boxes from the '80's-'90's era that I use for various HO-1/24 purposes, but you can NEVER have enough cool wooden slot car boxes!

I have a stack of similar boxes that were dirt cheap from one of my woodworking tool catalogues years ago. That box (the Costco one), is far superior to the ones I got. I had to make several modifications to mine to keep drawers from falling out when carried, adding feet so they didn't scrape what they were placed on, and reinforcing the cardboard drawer bottoms. I'd say that box is worth two of the ones I got.

I bought one at $59 with $10 shipping and thought it was a great deal. Now at $40 with free shipping, this a real steal. It's really a nice tool box, just wish I had room in the workshop for a couple more!

I assume that these slot boxes are for home use. Do you lug these boxes to the races - how heavy are they? Any alternatives? I have a classic Hoffman that I have used w/1/24, 1/32, & HO cars and supplies. I now have a separate Plano box for each of the different types of car I have especially when I have to travel. For me light weight is the only way to go especially when you're on the move. Don't get me wrong, those boxes you have are pretty KOOL!
