Trans Am 2015

Yesterday I watched several of this year's TransAm races on one of the sports channels. From what I could see the cars are all of north american origin. 50 to 60 entries divided into 3 classes. Corvettes (C-6 and C-7) Camaros, Mustangs and Challengers. Some very neat liveries. I hope the series survives and that one of the slot car manufacturers produces the cars.

Over the past few years my slot car dollars have gone towards combating Trans Am fever - with an eye on reliving the golden era of muscle cars from the mid 60's to early 70's. It's probably not a coincidence that those were my teenage years and I was the type of guy who thought more about cars than girls.

The Historic Trans Am series got me collecting and racing slot cars from that era that Scalextric and Pioneer have been releasing. I haven't seen any of the recent Trans Am races you mentioned, but if they still feature close competition between U.S. brands I'll have to check them out.

I enjoy the modern Trans Am too. I don't get premium cable but am able to find them on Youtube. THey put on some good hard racing, Scalextric makes a series of the modern pony cars that are very similar to the Trans Am versions in both black window and with clear glass & interior. Ninco has them too. It wouldn't be very hard to dress them up with aftermarket wheels & tires & liveries to be even closer to the Trans Am cars.

One of my friends here in Knoxville is a crew member for John Baucom's T/A car. He says that some of those chassis go back 15 plus years. They are holding on, just waiting for a class resurgence to the popularity it had during the 90's

Scott Maxwell from Toronto drives in the series, as well as some others, and
He also owns 2 Slot car shops in the Toronto area.
Mini Grid , downtown and Maxport at Downsview Park.
He is a super guy, very approachable and a pleasure to talk with.

I just enjoyed another race. This series deserves our support. For those of you on Facebook, there is a dedicated current Trans Am series page called, "Go Race Trans Am".

Well I have to make a change, I got my Trans Am and my Grand Am crossed up.
Scott ran Grand Am among other things. I dont know that he ever ran T/A.
Have to keep, the record straight though.
