Once upon a time it might have been a Porsche I experienced on a super speedway long ago going flat out and who knows how fast or when I finally got some decent tires on my Rx7 back in the AutoX days...
But now it was to be the
Tesla Model S. The parallels are notable. The motive power in the one I experienced was 3 electric motors (vs our 1 large motor @ 1:32). The torque is jaw dropping though understandable for an electric motor (no IC engine can compare). While no street car on DOT tires can compare to the neck snapping implacable front directional control of a 'slot' car - the Tesla's AWD and traction control almost make you wonder (and hey it has actual directional control unlike a 1:32). Further, it has a considerably lower CG than most - all the bats are down at the bottom - like where we place our lead weight on 1:32s. It's quiet - very quiet - something you should be used to in a slot car. There's no transmission either just like a slot car. And there's no gear whine (I think it has a single reduction gear arranged similar to a 1:32 sidewinder).
In short: that's about as close as I can imagine to experiencing a slot car in 1:1.
(...and if you recently purchased a performance oriented car - don't drive on of these - it will take the lead right out of that new car pencil)
