A RTR Scalex Car With Slot It Parts ?????

Postby Lenny Broke » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:03 pm

Would there be a demand for a "Club Racer" range of cars say in the Scalextric GT-3 class with standard body, motor & chassis but with slot it axle kits front and back standard out of the box instead of the plastic parts ?

A lot of clubs around here have a of class catering for the Scalex, SCX, Carrera type of cars but allow upgrading of the running gear while retaining the standard body/chassis/motor configuration. The main reason given for allowing this is for greater reliability and better running of the cars. This usually entails buying an after market kit which added into the cost of the original car pushes the total price up into NSR territory.
Considering that Scalex already have a tie up with Slot It. a RTR "club racer" may fit in nicely between the standard RTR car and the higher performance PCR 3d printed chassis kit and would cater for those looking for a more modest performer but with good quality running gear straight out of the box much like a standard slot it model.

I'm not sure about the difference in cost between making the original plastic components and those from Slot It. but I hopefully pricing would be around the cost of a standard RTR Slot It. model.

Cheers
Alan

It would be nice if I could persuade the few racers who have been coming once a month to race classic Carrera Nascars to venture a little further into the world of 1/32 hard body slot cars and invest in something like this but so far they have been unwilling to make any further investment of time or money in this segment of the hobby. So we will be sticking with the Carrera Nascars and maybe the modern GT cars from Carrera or Scalextric with tires being the only additional investment.

I think I have seen a Euro company on Slotcar Today that specializes in tricked out, competition ready Scaley cars. They exist so there must be a market, at least in Europe. Without some kind of Scaley-centric organized racing I think it would be a hard sell, especially with Slot-it and NSR as well-established competition.
