Bolton Raceway Park 2013

Postby BRP32 » Thu Jan 17, 2013 1:27 pm

Bolton's Speed Shop presents Bolton Raceway Park 2013.

Quite a few changes have went into this small 4 ' X 12' Scalextric Sport track since I got back into 1/32 slots about 2 years ago. I finally settled on this configuration. It is a small track but fun and challenging.

All the buildings and grandstands were scratch built along with the pit area.

The trees were snow covered trees from the craft store spray painted green.

Still plenty of scenery yet to do....

Enjoy!

That's a nice set-up you've got there. I bet there is a lot of fender banging that goes on each lap!

I like what you did with the garage. Can you post a close-up of the grandstands when you get a chance? Those are two items that I hope to scratch build for my set-up too, and every bit of inspiration helps! Thanks.

Thanks guys for the compliments!

Yeah, there is a lot of beating and banging on this track but that is what makes things fun!

I will post pics of the grandstands I scratch built to help you better see what I did..

They are no where near to scale but they really do fit in nicely and look good.

I took paint sticks, cut them down to length and painted them gray for the seat parts and the white uprights were just stepped to fit the width of the paint sticks.

Sorry Harry but I loved your slot car sign and had to have one!!!!

Sorry for pirating it from you.....

Pictures of my scratch built grandstands.

Paint sticks cut to any length you want really with scrap wood cut and painted as the stepped uprights.

I think I have a new career also like George Costanza as a hand model!!!!

No where near done. Scenery never is just like on a train layout.......

Being an N scale model railroader also, I love scratch building and doing scenery!

I just purchased a set of those Hot Wheels pit crew figures and have to paint over 2 dozen figures to put around the track next.

Just need to figure out what paint to use on them yet?

Also need to build a flagmans start finish tower yet also.

I really do enjoy scratch building a lot of the cars you see I have that aren't available RTR.

The '50's stockers were a joy to build!

I have a few more T/A cars in the works currently.

My Billboards are just 1" white pvc pipe painted green with white foam core posterboard glued to the pvc pipe. I down loaded a bunch of signage from a post on SCI a guy named Geezer posted. All the signage is attached to the foam core poster board with 2 sided scotch tape.
I think they look pretty good. I will build more to add around the layout to fill in more of the voids with.

All my scratch built buildings and track scenery has been built with inexpensive items I have had laying around the house or could be purchased at a craft store at minimal cost.

nice track & scenery , signs also look good especially your Saturday Night sign does not matter the size of tracks as long as they are fun

My Pit building was made out of very thin plywood(luan Board) I think they call it?

I had enough for 4 garage bays in the area I had to work with without overwhelming the scene.

As far as dimensions goes, I kind of just eye balled it as I went along by placing cars next to it for the garage door openings. I took thick "GOO" adhesive and ran it in the corners of the garage, sprayed the structure white then fitted a roof onto it and used "GOO" adhesive to attach the roof to the structure. The sign across the top for my race track name was a paint stick cut to length, painted then I printed off a sign for it.

Pretty easy slap together scratch build actually!

Overall dimensions of the garage are:

6" deep by 22" long by 4" high to the roof.

The garage door openings are 3" tall by 3 1/2" wide equally spaced apart.

Not really to any given scale but looks darn good for eyeballin it!

Hope this helps!

Inexpensive tire barriers.......

I built these inexpensive tire barriers by using some rubber reinforced heater hose I had laying in the garage close to the size of a standard slot car tire in 1/32 scale. I just cut them to the same width, stack them up and used goo adhesive to secure them.......
