Outdoor Racing

So I took my Grandson's track and hung it under the shed to make room for all the slot boxes others bring for the event.

When my Grandson arrived, the guys asked if they could take it down and race with him on it. Needless to say he was VERY excited to have the guys do this.



With fresh Filbert's Root Beer in hand, he had a ball.

I can see it now, Harry is going to try and incorporate G Scale Railroad technology into slots and build a "garden raceway" :o

Playing with slot cars outdoors is a fun way to go. I move my Little D out to the back yard every summer. Don't forget suntan lotion (for you dummy, not the tires ;-) and insect repellent.

I have a large quantity, about 145 running feet of rare Scalextric 1/24 scale 3 lane track, awaiting my NEXT home that will have a space large enough to put up a layout.

It's true 1/24 scale, with 4" centers. Two different radius turns so one can put together a 6 lane layout. Have the HUGE banked turn as well.

Never sold in the US, was made/sold in Europe for only a couple of years in the late 60's.

With the track so wide, by the time you add the shoulders even a basic layout takes up a lot of room.

It was sold and represented by Scalex that it could be set up and left outside. The stainless steel rails would not rust. One (supposedly) simply wiped the track down/ensure it was dry before use.

I accumulated my track from a number of people in Europe. Indeed, several said that they had their layouts setup outside and left up most of the year.

And Frank, indeed where we live IS the Land of Pleasant Living!

Seeing pix of the grandsons track, makes me wonder why Carrera and other manufacturers have not made a flat "X" track to allow figure 8 tracks without a flyover. Those track pieces were common to most 60's designs and I think Scalex has one now. I'm just surprised no one makes one now. If Carrera cares to do a flat crossover, I would sure like to see the curved lane changers like Scalex Sport has added too. Dave you hear that???

I'm the opposite. Have no desire to install it even if they made it. The flat crossover, as well as standard crossovers turns into nothing more than an unnecessary crash points. AKA "Live 8". Scalextric made one for their "Crash - n Bash" set years ago. Aptly named. Fun for awhile.

He likes the bridge. Says it is neat and he wants to do scenery to make it more realistic.
