I suspect your area was like mine- long overdue for a serious wind blast, and whammo! Maples and red oaks can take a lot, but sooner or later, no matter how many times a hen's egg smashes a robin's egg... an ostrich egg makes mush of both of them. I lost 32 trees a few years back, and 7 more since then, all because it had been dozens of years since a serious wind event happened here. Thing is, there has never been a wind event like the three in the last 14 years. I will hate how much I have to pay for electricity (air conditioning), if I lose the shade near the house, but damn. Can I risk that these trees near the house won't drop on the roof like yours did?
That generator was a good idea, wasn't it! I've never been sorry I bought one.
