Driving the new Thunder Slot Lola T70

Not really, the list price on a Thunderslot is 84.99, Slot it list price is 69.99.

My collection is limited to Scalextric, Pioneer, SCX, Carerra, MRRC, and Fly. Most expensive RTR so far was a hard-to-find Scalextric Trans Am Camaro I got from a hobby shop in Australia for $86.

Before I wised up I paid $59 - $69 for Fly cars that wouldn't even run till a cracked gear or hub was replaced.

What does a NSR go for?

NSR slot cars used to be tightly controlled and I never saw one advertised in the USA for less than $100 USD. In recent times after the death of the owner I have seen them advertised in the $80-$90 range. sometimes less on ebay. So Thunder Slot has priced the Lola in the same range undiscounted. If one is willing to deal with stores in the UK they are a little less.

I have been doing some tuning on my red Lola. I added a guide spacer as I noticed some red paint rubbing off the underside of the nose. I also added some axle spacers on the front axle to eliminate side play and prevent front tire rubbing on the inside of the wheel wells. I still haven't gotten the rear cross brace for the motor pod mount to the rear of the chassis but I did add motor pod screws at that location which on my track does the trick. With freshly cleaned rear tires I have achieved the fastest lap time of any of my rtr cars. It is virtually in a class by itself.

I think a major factor in the reduction of price for NSR cars may be the strength of the US dollar against the Euro, as these are about the last cars still made in Europe.

And, guys, let's support our local retailers as much as we can. They are for the most part not gouging us on price and they carry all the spare parts and accessories we need. They also contribute generously to this and other forums and Proxy races. It's one thing buying overseas if it's not a car that is being distributed locally, but doing that just to save a few $ is counterproductive in the long run, IMO.

You are right Dennis. The price is because of the strength of the dollar. We as dealers also have to sell at list price for six months. We have no control over the price. Only two destrubitor ' s do that. The other one we can never lower the price. It is always nice when people understand that savings a couple dollars on a car over seas is really hurting the US dealers.

I just put a pair of PG urethane tires on my Lola and immediately set the track record for an unmodified classic GT hard body car. My NSR Porsche 917 had the record previously.
