About the same time I started racing slot cars I was already building plastic models of planes, ships, cars and armor. Through all the years when slot car tracks were as rare as hen's teeth I continued to build plastic models and still build them today. Here is an example of my model building that I just finished today. It is a 1/48th scale model of a Viet Nam era Marine corps F-4J Phantom II.

Very cool build Bob (even if you do have the "wrong" markings on it :shifty: ). I spent many hours on, in and under the old "Double Ugly"; Cs, Es and RFs (see my avatar). I also used build 1/48th planes and think I have some stored away. I liked doing "war wearys" and dioramas. Again very nice.

Nicely done. My affections turn towards WWII fighters. Did lots of plastic kits of those
until I got into u-line gas planes. From there it was a quick jump to R/C. Did that for
one summer until big cars became my full time passion, which also ended my slot racing
for a while. About twenty years ago two of my buddies had kids who got into u-line, then
graduated to R/C. I gave them my old stuff, and we all spent many summer evenings flying
in a local park. The kids eventually went off to college, and that should have been then end
of it, but wouldn't you know, giant scale planes started to become popular and I just had to
stick my hands into that.

I did 1/35th scale Dioramas.There are quite a few that have made it into private collections.I was even invited to dioramas for a major exhibit in a museum featuring an exhibit on the life of Gen. Patton.My dioramas were generic representations of the Battle of the Bulge.

I like the WW1 planes, especially the British pusher style biplanes. I recdently purchased a Roden DH-1 in 1/32 scale. Just neat old planes. Good job on the phantom. :)

Nice looking F4! I've only gotten to sit in the cockpit and fly a simulator of one. We were at Ramstein AFB, Germany in the 1980's and that was what they had. Very cool birds.

I've build about 40 over my lifetime - My SR-71 and F16 are the two I miss the most.
