Oxigen Track in Nashville AREA?

Postby speedfreaks » Sun May 06, 2018 6:42 pm

We run Carrera Digital and I would love to try racing on a Oxigen track/ Carrera or other.
Anyone in the Nashville area racing this?
Newbie to group.

thanks

Not very many Oxygen equipped tracks in USA. There are some Carrera Digital guys in Knoxville. I think their Hobbytown has a Carrera Digital track out during the winter.

If you have already a Carrare Digital track you can use oXigen on it.
You need to get controllers, chips and a dongle but you can use the Carrera lane changers as they are.

Thanks for the response. I was just wanting to try the Oxigen system somehow before buying.
I was going to buy a controller and chip a car but I hate invest in lane changers and everything else with out seeing one for myself.

Speedfreaks,
Where in Nashville are you? Been looking for a racing partner. Closest I found was a group in Murfreesboro a few years ago. They have since disbanded. I have Scaley Track.

I'm in Mount Juliet actually. East on 40 from Nash. We have a club that races "track provided" cars and then a Nascar race with mildly modifiable class.
We race Tomorrow Tuesday nights. track is open 4:30 to 8:30. races start at 6:30.
Email speedfreaks32@gmail.com if you want to come check us out. We have about 9 members.
151 feet of track. Just come out. we have cars.

Mike,
That would be nice if you did. I have been to a couple of new tracks 1/24 in northern middle TN. White House, Cross Plains and Lafayette. Still go to Louisville when they race on Saturdays. Just discovered my frat brother was a slotter as a kid like me. I going to take him with me wherever I go next.

Very awesome info GRUNZ. I must admit i found the oXigen system a little confusing.
I love the carrera system but i like the idea of not having the Digital signal running through the rails. But i also do not see my racers getting on board with 250$ wireless controllers.
We just use the wireless carrera ones and we love the freedom.
I will follow with more on this later.

I agree with you: oXigen can be overwhelming.
That is why there is a wonderful manual describing it in details.
If you have not read it I really encourage you to download it and have a good read: http://slot.it/Download/oXigen/Manuals/ ... nO2.en.pdf

With the SCP2 controller you would still need to wire the controller for power. Some have modified the handle to add a lipo battery. There is also a 3D case for adding lipo battery on one side of the controller.
With the new SCP3 controller, the lipo battery is already included in the case.

I understand that you love you wireless Carrera controllers, but once you try a SCP you will see what it means to have a proper controller.
I am pretty sure that afterwards you will regard your carrera controller as a on/off switch.

hi speedfreaks
Yes. My home track is a SSD (Scalextric Sport Digital) track. We usually run with RCS64 (with full simulations).
In 2016, I have bought several SP2 controllers (I think I have 4 handles in total and 7 oXigen cartridges) and more than 10 B1 chips.
I also convinced my racing buddies to get controllers and chips.
We race once in a while with oXigen but we love the strategy aspect that RCS64 and simulations bring to our races.
So we are waiting for the RCS64 team to released their version of the software for OXigen (RCSO2)...I have been a betatester for this RMS.

I have also raced in big tracks in Europe doing some of the largest events (like the DiSCA 24h Le Mans and the 6h of Suzuka) and some DiSCA GT3 races.

Grunz,
Awesome. Higher level slot car geek. So your know all about this. I bought a B chip last year. Been waiting to buy the controller. But when I Reread the PDF today because you spoke of Chip C and SP3 controller I was shocked that it had already changed from the last time I read it. I didn't know there was a C or SP3 at the time.
But here's my question: If I use chip B and buy SP3 then I will have a car that runs on D132 but WILL NOT change lanes nor count laps? Unless I put magnets under track right.
So if I but magnets in then it WILL work with Carrera Digital pit, lap counters, and fuel gages and change lanes?
It looks like I need the new Chip C to get all my native D132 to work.?
Thanks again for help..
SF

Oh, and where do I but the SCP-3 controller?

The SCP3 and the C chip have been announced for a while. In other forums there is more discussion on these topics.

Coming back to your question. On page 25 it explains how it works.
Basically, a B1 chip with any SCP controller (as long as it has the oXigen cartridge) will work on the carrera track changing lanes and counting laps on the native pieces. You do not need to get a C chip or a SCP3 for achieving this.
Your B1 chip can be programmed to work as a Carrera chip (this is explained on page 16).
However, given the way in which the Carrera lane changers work, you need to have a carrera controller paired on the ID you want to control and its lane changer button must be pressed (you can use an elastic band for this).
Now, the oxigen chip emits ID only when the lane changer is pressed. To count lap you need to put a magnet underneath the track before the s/f line.
When the chip senses the magnet it will start emitting the ID so that the carrera power base can pick the car ID and count laps.

As you can see, although you can count laps and change lanes using the original carrera pieces, for the B1 chip you need to have the Carrera controllers attached and the lane changer button pressed...which is a work-around because the B1 chip does not understand the native carrera protocol that is sent through the rails. You will need to use the SCP controller to control the car.

With the C chip, you can install a firmware that will make the chip understand the Carrera native protocol from the rails. This means that you will need a carrera controller to control a car with the C chip installed. In this case, the SCP controller will not communicate anymore through wireless with the chip.

Hope that this makes it a bit clearer....there is a lot to get!
cheers
