I've been in and out of this hobby for some time.There is still something magical of seeing a car going around the track.That you control..I've never been good at it,but the magic is still there...Sometimes I think we forget about that.I'll never be the best or the fastest,but I guarantee you that we will be having fun..
We are In the process of building a track with 60's Revell...Why,because it's different,still fun,and why not... ;) I've raced with some of the best.Bibbster,Harry and his buddies..All great racers..Fast and smooth.Things change,people move on,but the magic is still there...........

Yeah, Rusty, we've been in the same camp a long time, haven't we? I swear, I think it would be great fun to set all three lanes on my track to a set speed and just watch the cars go by. the way we used to do with HO trains.

Are you still in touch with Bibbster? I lost track of him long ago. Good guy.

A buddy of mine spent a year collecting miles and miles of Riggens/Revell track a few years back. He just about had enough for a very long multilane track (80 feet at least), and a hurricane blew through and took the roof of his storage unit to parts unknown. It was awful. What didn't break to pieces when the broken roof supports fell into it (it was old and brittle), rusted beyond hope of repair. Happy ending, though. He now has a seamless HO track, a 1/32nd big track, and a 1/24th routed track, all in the same building!

I couldn't agree more. It's a Walter Mitty experience for me...the closest I can get to the real thing.
And when the laughing about nerfing and the grandson smile at "winning" gets going, it's all worth it.
Have fun! It's playing with toys cars after all.

Hey Rusty - great sentiments - we had a new chap join our race group. I was chatting to him last night - joining our group has opened up his slot car fun. He has started tuning his cars now - adding some weight to non-mag cars and sanding the tyres (means they get a run now instead of looking pretty on the shelf) He was saying that he now spends more time working and running his cars and is having a ball. Great little hobby we all share - so much to it - history of drivers, race cars and tracks - making kits or buying rtr - lots of different era to race - a real blast. :)

We have lost some close friends over the years, but we have the memories that never go away. It's not just a hobby here, it is a way of life.
We are blessed for knowing the ones no longer with us, and for the times spent with those here today.

I'll still pull the trigger and run my mouth about these toys until I can't :dance:

Funny, I was looking at some old pics on my computer and I couldn't believe how many cars used to own and how many cool cars I let go that I still wish I had. It's been well over 10 years and a WHOLE LOTTA money later and I still really enjoy this hobby. I think it started with me watching sports car racing on Wide World of Sports when I was a kid. Jackie Stewart was an early hero. Loved the wee Scotsman's commentary!

Anyway, I'm sure when my time is up, they'll have to pry the controller from my cold, stiff fingers...lol

Rooster - your story reminds me of a time in the 80's when I drove 3 hours for a race at Pennsylvania International Raceway that was postponed till the next day after heat races due to rain. Not wanting to miss the feature, I got a motel room to stay over for the conclusion of the event. While hanging out in the room watching TV I remembered having my slot car box in the trunk and ended up building my best custom brass chassis car that night - a full offset dirt modified that won our club's championship the following winter.

I don't remember the race I went to see but I remember building that car and the fun I got out of it. Now I'm a solo racer and love the hobby as much as ever, maybe more. When people ask me what are my plans for retirement I say road trips, which is true, but I'm mostly dreaming of endless hours of racing, including recreating years of Trans Am, Le Mans, and Can-Am races with replicas of the actual cars from the 60's & 70's.

Slot cars have been a wonderful hobby and source of fun for me for over 50 years. And HRW gives us all a chance to share that.
