You make some good points, Slothead, and I agree that racing mixed brands is a lot more fun than just having a single maker on the track. But, if all you want to do is take the car out of the box, fit the guide in the slot and drive, then it is probably best if you narrow your choices and stay confined to one manufacturer.

If a club runs a class that is not brand specific when the first few races are run it may become obvious that certain cars are superior. As time goes by the tendency is for the same cars to make up the bulk of the field.

To each his own I guess but to me, having to stick to just one brand of car would be incredibly boring. As some have previously indicated, when racing with a club that allows or even encourages multiple manufacturers, certain cars/brands will stick out as being faster right out of the box. The challenge or fun of it to most of the guys I know is getting a car that they like, regardless of manufacture to be competitive. Now some may think that if a car is pretty much a dog from the factory, it may not be worth the expense of buying a whole bunch of parts when you could just buy a quicker car to begin with, do some minor tuning and buy a set of tires suitable to the track.

As for Carerra, I don't have any of their GT cars anymore and probably won't buy any in the future unless they make some changes to the running gear/chassis. I just don't like how they run (non mag) and now that Scaley inline GTs can be had for pretty much the same price as a Carrera and only need the rear tires changed (maybe some weight added), why bother??

Good points, Mr, Quick. That is the reason I got rid of my Carrera digital track. Just too confining. And, in the case of Carrera, I didn't want to invest any more money into company/system that doesn't seem to have a good grip on what it wants to be, or how to get there.

Well, for me the main appeal of Carrera GT3 cars is that Carrera is the only one doing most of the current line up.
Scalextric new inline are nice cars but with only three models in this current configuration (including the outdated Z4) it is not really that appealing for a diverse grid.
I have seen carrera body put on a diet and with a 3d printed chassis competing against more high-performance models.

It is still a carrera (at least one car that only carrera does like the 488 or the M6) and if you work on it it can be made competitive.
But even out of the box they are fine...if you know what you are doing.

I don't really think that a car with a Carrera body, 3d printed chassis and probably slot.it or other aftermarket running gear is still a Carrera. It's the car you wish Carrera made in the first place...lol
