Ugly racers

Ok.....been thinking about this for a while.
Gonna put it out there.....

What about ugly cars - Pinto, Gremlin, Pacer? I see the Gremlin periodically but it's rare and the other two seem more so. Sources for these?

Ugh...what about an Ugly Proxy....for fun....slow motors and skinny tires in a plasticard chassis with no bearings/bushings under these horrible bodies if they are available? Maybe the Kia Soul could be added since it's square. Seems like a horrible idea....

Richard Pryor talked about someone who was so ugly, he was yoo-gly.

I always thought that a Pacer could be a tiny little tank, or a Porsche 356 with a really bad glandular condition. I guess this would be something that requires making a resin cast of a diecast. Surely no one made a Pacer model, especially in 1/32. I don't think there would be a source for Pintos or Gremlins in that scale either.

We could expand this to others, like the Pontiac Aztek and AMC Matador.

The Gremlin is available in 1/32. Smilin Ray makes one.

Of course there is always the Pontiac Aztec. That one was just painfully ugly.

The Slot.it car cover/insert thing was crazy....I just had to ask if anyone knew of a decent Pacer. Or Pinto.

The Aztec is horrible....but too modern for my intent.
And btw.....I have a couple cars that my sons made 20 years ago when they were 3 and 4 that look about the same.....

Pinto bodies were very popular on modified type cars during the '70s and '80s. Bodies of that type without front fenders are available in 1/24th scale, I was not able to find any in 1/32nd scale.

Dave Kneisel built and raced a beautiful #711 Pacer bodied dirt modified n the '70's at NY & PA tracks. I wasn't able to import any photos for this post, but if you do an image search you'll see what I mean.

A 1/25th resin body is available, but I'm not aware of any in 1/32.

Sorry. All I could find was a series of Vega-bodied cars, and some assorted fiberglass '32 coupes.

Model of Dave Kneisel's #711 dirt modified. I was at Orange County Fair Speedway in 1982 when he lost his life in this car in a first turn accident. It was later reported he suffered a heart attack while driving causing him to hit the first turn wall at full speed. Dave's cars always stood out and I'd love to build a slot car replica of this if a 1/32 scale Pacer body was available.

The Nash Metropolitan is pretty high up on my list of U G L Y :|

Fiesta! That's the one I couldn't remember.

Nash Metropolitan was the best looking Nash, so you can guess how ugly they were. I always thought that if there was a car that deserved the moniker "cute" it would be a toss up between the various Minis and the Nash Metropolitan (which was really an Austin-Healy Sprite).

OK, I'm the FORD guy so I'll just mention this - Pintos were a popular Pro Stock drag racing body with the Blue Oval crowd in the early days of the category.
There were also some set up as "poor man's" weekend road racers and autocrossers.
Most using the model with the 1600cc OHV Inline 4 cylinder engine (there were after market speed parts available), 4 speed trans and front disc brakes.
Not super fast, but FUN just the same! -- Ernie :>)

Adding to Ernie's post, there were a great many kit cars that used the Pinto chassis and quite a few even used the drivetrain. It was preferred over the Mustang II chassis for many reasons, mostly to do with quality.
