VW Scirocco

Got a chassis build going to fit under an AMT VW Scirocco kit body with the optional flares.





Piano wire main rails are .062 with .064 brass strip cross members as bases for the Slot It motor pod and guide tongue. Wheels are Mitoos 19 x 10 Raid wheels, my go-to ones for small 1/24/1/25 builds. Tires are PG 21126 and 21137, front and rear.

Flares seem a bit much even for me, so they'll get some trimming.

Nice thing about small 1/24/25 cars is that you can you use the same parts from your 1/32 parts bin.

I bought a used '75 Scirocco, basically a stylized Rabbit, and kept it going for many years back when money was real tight. Liked that car.

Hi Dan, Nice clean build, well done !!................I am sure many will disagree, but, for my taste, the size of the flares overpower the lines of the car.

I agree on the flares. As the body's a friend's choice for which the chassis is destined, I'll defer to his tastes.

AMT seems to exaggerate their optional parts in some kits.

Chris, remember this front spoiler option on my Sunbeam Tiger build awhile back?

Yeah, my first car was a 79 Scirocco with square back, 4 headlights, the 4 speed and 105 throttle body injected horsepower :lol:
I like the wedgy look of the car but this one is impossible to see through the flares.
I get "building for a friend" though. To each their own!

Side pans (.032" thick) attached and a NSR drive train installed for testing.





Runs smooth as Chris's chassis build advice of "flat and square" was adhered to.

Going well so far but we'll see once the body is mounted.

Body's side mounted, first time I've ever tried this. Pins are 1/16" (.0625") wire inserted in 3/32" round brass elevated by 3/32" square brass soldered on the pans. Pretty fiddly.



Will make smaller diameter pins from .055 wire to get some body play and solder on heads to more easily grasp.

The body stance is good but the front spoiler will need filing for more clearance and the flares will get some trimming too.







I think my friend will like his larger scale entry for local racing.

Chassis looks great Dan. Flat and square is good advice. That's what HarVWallbanger use to say also along with never clamp anything down. Puts tension on it. Should run nice. :handgestures-thumbup:
