With old man winter trying to shut us indoors, at least I have plenty to do.

When cars are time trialed to get fast times, how many laps do you run them? I ask because consistency can be as important as overall speed, so I compute the average time and variance as well as fastest time for a qualification session. If car X has the fastest lap time, but car Y has a faster average lap time, I rank car Y ahead of car X. This is based on the thought that a car that can turn consistently quick laps is better in a race than a car that can occasionally be the fastest. There's nothing better with oval racing than getting into the zone with a car where you can consistently hit your marks and get into and out of corners just right to run lap after lap as though on rails.

If possible, I'd love it if you'd publish the lap times for cars during qualification runs. I'm a super data nerd and will enjoy playing with the numbers.

We have a "Fast Lap Shootout".

I run each car in the red lane of our track. Usually a 10 lap run. I post the fastest lap and average, but for the challenge, fast lap is the win.

This is after all the cars have went through a "shakedown". Basically a test and tune session where I make sure the car is mechanically sound. IF there is any issues such as a bad gear, tire, chassis or body dragging, etc...I contact the owner and I will do my best to fix it. I have plenty of spares on hand to repair any part of the car.

During the race, total laps, best lap time and best averages are posted.
If two or more cars have the same laps, then we look at best lap time.

Lap time averages during the race are not always an indicator of the best car.
Accidents happen. Cars get into traffic. And finally the MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR: the DRIVER.
Each driver has different driving styles. This effects the overall average as expected.
So data for racing solo is a fun and good thing, but one thing you cannot predict is THE DRIVER :)

Yes great looking cars there. I wanted to try to enter this proxy, but never had time to solder a chassis. Im more of a plastic chassis guy.

What a great line up of cars! A few years ago I was browsing the internet for sportsmans that ultimately pointed me in the direction of HRW. I was inspired by those and we ended up having our own mini series based on Carrera cars here in Christchurch, New Zealand. I still have the Plymouth Roadrunner and think it would look the part sitting in this grid. I haven't made a brass chassis since I was a teenager (and that was very basic) but I was wondering if there is a reason why the body posts of production model bodies aren't used in building a chassis.

Second, some use the posts once in awhile. But we are a lazy bunch and making side pans are just easier sometimes. There is no wrong way, so time for you to fire up that old iron and bring the NZ heat to Missouri!
