As a solo racer it's data, computing, and imagination that make this hobby fun for me. I inquired about the lap data so I could consider simulating my own races with these cars. With basic statistical data you can create probability models and generate likely outcomes - like what is done in weather forecasting when the path of a storm is predicted. I did a lot of this sort of stuff in graduate school and for my dissertation, so it's how I think.
Certainly the driver is the biggest factor and makes all the difference. That's why when running cars for simulated races I say I'm channeling the assigned driver - Dan Gurney, Mark Donohue, etc. When ya got lemons why not make lemonade.
I enjoy the Showdown series and appreciate your efforts and the craftsmanship of the entrants. I plan to put my calculations aside and enter the fray myself at some point, perhaps with a car for the Summer Showdown this year. Just haven't found the ideal body to use yet.
