2019 CanAm - Round #1 - The River Run

Happy to hear, but based on qualifying I am more interested to hear if you have any cars around positions 8 through 17!!

Well, Round #1 of the 2019 CanAm Proxy is in the books.

Matt (changing.gearz), Bob (relog) and Jeff (dge467) came over this morning and put the cars through a concourse and then a race.

We ran 25 3-minute heats with the drivers staying in their lanes for the entire race. Matt drove the red (inside) lane, Jeff the white (middle) lane and Bob the blue (outside lane). The cars were entered onto the grid in reverse qualifying order; the fastest qualifiers running last. Car #8 was not able to make the qualy session, due to a gearing problem, and so started in 25th position or the first to run in the race. The results are posted based on total distance traveled in a total of 3 heats; to the nearest 1/10 of a lap. In the case of a distance tie, then the fasted lap posted by both cars in any lap determines the winner.

We had some damage to some of the cars; most of it was minimal, but the Ti-22 suffered some body damage to the passenger's side front end; the result of a sudden deslot, followed by contact with another oncoming car. It is being looked at now by Matt and Bob and I'll update the owner with the status as soon as I know it (Bob and Matt, feel free to do that, too). The body damage didn't seem to affect the racing capability of the car; which was a relief to everyone.

And also interesting that several of the typical proxy front runners seem to be struggling in this proxy. Will be interesting to see how things shake out in the rest of the series: will this trend continue or will matters revert to established patterns.

Congratulations Dave, Smokieo and Allan on your podiums. Even bigger congratulations to Zach, the car I was most concerned about beating debuting with a top 5 finish. that's a win considering the talent in this series. Great job also to the other builders who are new to proxy racing as I know you're not new to building fast slot cars.
Looks like the concern of Thunderslots dominating may not be the case as the top 5 was won by Slot It M8s. I know the #76 will get faster as it goes so don't count it out as it appears the race for 5-10th will be a tight battle.
Allan, Bob, Jeff and Matt thank you guys for running this round and handling concours. Doubl-B looks like you will have some fun at your location very soon.

A few words for Adrian (ALS), whose car (63) suffered a heavy crash, the results of which can seen in the photo above. The metallic upright that supports the light bridge for lap counting can be seen in the photo. Car 63 approached from the right of the photo on this short back straight and was upended by contact with another car. The car’s front rose high enough to go over the sponge cushions (some of which can be seen in the photo) and make direct contact with the edge of the immovable light bridge support. Pieces of the body were gathered and placed by the car for the photo.

Matt has the car and its pieces and will be setting about repairs at his CG SlotCars “Skunkworks” prior to the next round. Even without the pieces of front body work, the car seemed to handle well.
