Ferrari 330 P4 Berlinetta

Was poking through my slot car closet and came up with an old Fujimi Ferrari 330 P4 model kit.



Was incomplete but had all the needed parts (body, glass, interior dash, wheels) for a slot car conversion. BRM aluminum 1/24 rims and my own cast urethane tires are the right diameter so that's the rolling stock.

Thinking of a sidewinder motor layout for this one.

Cut, trimmed and assembled chassis parts.

- .055" piano wire for main rails and front axle uprights
- .064" brass strip for guide tongue and crossmembers
- 4mm brass tube for front axle holder
- 5/32" brass tube for guide post
- Scale Auto 3mm axles
- Sloting Plus 3mm rear axle bushings
- BRM 1/24 Trans Am front and rear aluminum rims with home made urethane tires
- 3DRon sidewinder S can motor mount
- Slot It 11t 6.5mm pinion gear
- Scalextric Sport spur gear, 35t



Shaped kit's wheels to fit the BRM rims.



Should be rolling soon.

I have that exact same kit. Was going to be a future build and I too slipped in some BRM wheels into the box. I have a collection of 1/24 cox cars, so was going to use a Cox sidewinder chassis to keep all the cars the same. I slipped that in the box as well. The P4s are just a beautiful cars

Hi Dan (Vtecfour), Depending on your livery decision, Indycals has 1/24 decal sheets for a couple of 330 P4's.............

PS With the tall 1/24th rear tires, you may want to consider dropping a tooth on the pinion, and additionally, if you have any of the Scaley sport spurs (36/37/38 T), I would suggest using the highest tooth count one you have.

Looking good - I need some of those motor mounts but sized to fit a Carrera 1/24 motor - then I can convert some of my plastic kits to race against my other Carrera 1/24s

Chassis's rolling and powered with a Slot It 25K S can motor.







Changed gears to a 10t, 6.5mm pinion and 34t, 18mm crown. Mesh was better with a combined gear distance of 24.5mm (6.5mm + 18mm). The Scalextric Sport sidewider gears are different diameters with the 34t being the only 18mm diameter one.

Was going to true the tires but discovered that my old Tire Razor axle pulley doesn't accept a 3mm axle. Ran with untrued tires and it drove nice and smooth. Pleased with that outcome.







Mocked the body for desired stance. Going to work out.



Fortunately the incomplete model kit did have the decals so I'm covered there.

Added chassis .032" flexi side pans so as to side mount the body along with a single front post, just under the guide, for a tri-post set up.



Stance is good not slammed right down at all.

Glued the wheel inserts into the BRM rims.



Starting to shape up, modeling-wise.

Test ran on my twisty wood track and proved to be the fastest and most driveable of my 1/24th kit conversion builds (VW Golf Gr. 5, Datsun 240Z, McLaren Elva, Corvette roadster)

I'll be looking at the sidewinder motor with tri-post body mounting as my chassis formula for future large scale builds.









Now to get the body cosmetics done.

As usual, taking way longer on the modeling than the chassis.

Sprayed body with Tamiya pink primer first followed by Italian Red. Prepared a driver figure resin-copied from a Fujimi kit.



Applying decals next and then spraying on coats of Tamiya semi-gloss clear.

Have to ask, where did you score the motor & rear axle pod assembly? Googled 3DRon, found nothing.

@ waytoomuchintothis - that grey material on the green cutting mat is just adhesive residue from aged duct tape.

@ busterfla - 3DRon is a fellow member of the Greater Vancouver Slot Car Club (GVSCC) in Canada. He's been resin printing items pretty much exclusively for us locals and has never advertised his wares. I've just emailed him to see if he's interested in dealing with enquiries outside our group. Went through a series of calamities finishing off the body.

- old decals cracked even with applying decal softener
- decals crinkled from spraying Tamiya semi-gloss clear finish
- masking tape holding windshield in place left sticky adhesive that alcohol and thinner can't thoroughly clean











Oh well, it's going to be raced and looks good from five feet.

On to the next project.

P.S. For those interested in the 3D printed resin motor pod, you can contact 3DRon at rgdesnoyers2006"at"yahoo"dot"ca. He's got sidewinder motor pods for FF050 slimline and S cans. They require a 3/16" axle oilite bushing for 3/32 axles. The combined pinion/crown gear distance is 25.5mm (ie. 6.5mm pinion, 19mm spur) for both pods. Priced at $7 CDN each with shipping extra.
