Absolutely LOVED "The Day The Earth Stood Still" as a kid. Introduced it to my daughter when she was a child via the magic of VHS. She to, loved it and we would watch it every now and then.

Gotta' find a DVD of it "one of these days" along with some of my other old favorites.

Yes, the Forbidden Planet was a dandy, as was "Earth vs Flying Saucers".

As a kid, I also enjoyed the EARLY Japanese monster movies:

"Godzilla" (the original and not the goofy sequels), and "Rodan".

Then there were the "WTF?" movies with really poor plots, poor acting, and even worse special effects: Anyone remember the old sci-fi named "The Claw"? The evil vermin was a huge bird that sort of looked like a retarded buzzard! Truly awful on all counts... BUT... I enjoyed it as a kid!

Ah the memories!

I remember seeing "Them" as a kid. Those giant ants scared the willies out of me. Some really great old B&W movies. No need for the blood and gore splashing around. Just the suggestion that something was going to happen was enough.

Not b/w but how about The Illustrated Man?
Like little movies stuck together.

Ah, one of Rod Stieger's best movies, and the first Ray Bradbury book I ever read. Good choice.

It figures... The post I've gotten the most response from has absolutely NOTHING to do with slot cars! Well, I guess they both got their starts in the 1950's, anyway. Just my luck!
(Shhh... all this talk of sci fi, and not one mention of Star Trek? Must be all that color on the screen.)

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Back to racin' now... Ernie
