Sorry, but I'm gonna go there... Did anybody else notice that there are only women lookin' up that ladies dress? :>) !!
Yeah, I know, slot pervert New Yorker. No offense intended, but with recent discussions of tight sweaters and boob jobs, I figured I'd give it a shot. Enjoy the races -- Ernie

I dunno about looking up skirts, but I see the driver in #10 has decided to add some weight behind her to help the rear stay planted....

Attention all Cleveland/Parma dwellers! Is that a very young Ghoulardi telling the woman on stage to get back to her driving station? And are those '63 Thunderbird buckets and Edsel steering wheels?

To me those look like late 50's/early 60's Lincoln Continental seats, steering wheels and dashboards (the T-Bird seats came to mind, also). I agree with the previous opinion, too. I once again took too long typing and had to modify my original thoughts.
Cars shows just seemed cooler back then, didn't they? Not to put a negative spin on this, but can you imagine a manufacturer throwing a dozen driver cockpit set ups out there for today's show crowd to beat up on? Ever notice how many interior items get stolen off the cars on the show floor, even AFTER the manufacturer has already taken away things like shift knobs, ect.? I guess we can't blame Chevrolet for rolling up the windows and locking the doors on the Corvette display cars!

I just noticed the little MOBIL logos on the shelf above the dashboards. I did the Mobil Economy Run at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair with my Dad, but I can't remember what it looked like specifically, maybe that's what the photo is.
I still have the decal from that day on the inside lid of my first cork lined, green, Plano brand tackle box (a friend's Dad had advised me that Plano made the best fishing tackle boxes). It was (and still is) perfect for my intended use. Within that rectangular MOBIL logo, on four separate lines, it reads: "Qualified Driver - Mobil Economy Run - Driver Test - New York World's Fair". I'd be interested to know if anyone else has one of those decals, and any stories related to about how it came into their possession.
Of course, that was my first "deluxe" slot car box (sorry, I don't fish). I proudly purchased it using my hard earned newspaper route profits, for the sole purpose of securely hauling my Aurora HO slot cars around town in style! I was the first one of my racin' buddies to step up from carrying around an armful of cigar boxes, or a couple of Aurora's (very cool) tan plastic "Pit Kits". The outside of the box still bears the requisite large "STP" sticker that we all slapped onto notebooks, bicycles and everything else we could find back in the day.
I'm not the first with the fishing box idea, of that I'm sure. As we all know, most of today's HO racers use large tackle boxes with all sorts of compartments and shelving configurations available to them.
Now, back to that photo... Still can't tell if the logo on the steering wheel centers is the Edsel "E", or the Continental "+". I'll leave it to someone else to go online and search through old automotive literature and maybe post a photo of "positive proof".
Amazing where this whole thread's gone... Ernie

My driver's ed. was similar, but it didn't include indoor simulators. It was a '59 Plymouth Fury with the spare brake and a spare steering wheel. In those days the car makers set aside specials for driver's ed. The dash was doubled on both sides of the car, and although there was no accelerator or transmission buttons (yes, push button auto trans), on the teacher's side, there was a brake, and a steering wheel. It was unnerving to see the wheel on the other side of the car spin when I drove, especially parking. Worked great. I'm the only person I know who aced the written and the driving test on my 16th birthday. Driving tractors, trucks, and small bateaux (boats), since I was a boy kinda helped.

Yeah, all our instructor had was that right side foot well PANIC brake pedal! With one of the girls in our class, he had to use it so many times, she got pulled from the class. Because... she needed eyeglasses! She soon rejoined us with her new corrective lenses. -- Ernie

They didn't have simulators when I took D.E. The local Volvo dealer donated five PV544s and those were
our class cars. There was one primary instructor and four other instructors who were teachers at the school.
They rotated the instructors each week with the first week being classroom instruction only. My instructor for my
last week was also my auto shop teacher, so we had a little fun.We ditched the Volvo behind the auto shop
and went out in his nearly new El Camino SS396. Truth be known, I had already done some time behind the wheel.
And he knew I had made many runs at the strip. So he let me take some fast runs out on County Line Road.
It didn't help me get my license, though. I flunked the first time. The examiner said I needed more practice making
smooth starts and stops.

I took Driver's Ed in summer school the summer of '68, Columbus Ohio. The plus to this was 4 hours of class and driving time....we took some extended "road trips". The car was a 68 Ford Custom supplied by the AAA (with the extra brake pedal). No simulators; all class or behind the wheel, including parallel parking (how many had to do that?). Must have worked because I got my license on the first try.

Fortunately, I escaped drivers ED in Iowa in the early 60's. But, then again, I was racing Karts at age 10.
