stores in London.

Postby vonsirius » Tue Aug 13, 2013 11:34 pm

Hello, I´ll be in London, England in a few days.
Does anybody knows a slot car store in central London? I´m also interested on Lemax figures.
I´ll prefer 2nd hand/ cheap ;) slot cars not the ones I can buy at home.
Thank you in advance!

Sorry, I can't help.

If you live in the North of England,London is a foreign country that we support, without getting anything back.
In fact it's worse;40% of its population aren't of British origin, and it has become the place of residence of choice for big time criminals from all over the World - particularly Russia.

I do hope you don't get ripped off too badly.

Of course, if you have time to venture into the North, you could always have a trip to Pendle's - they're open on Friday afternoons, and Saturday mornings.(Their phone line is open all the time). As well as virtually every slot car currently in production, brand new, they usually have lots of boxes of used "junk"where you can often find useful body shells amongst other things.

I don't know of any other shops where you can get used stuff cheaply. The online purveyors of second-hand slot cars make personal appearances at shows and swapmeets, but I don't think they have shops you can visit - anyway, they tend to call their stock "collectors' items", and fix the prices accordingly.

You could try Googling: Janes Trains
and London Scalextric Club

Both mention model shops, but I've no idea what they're like, and I couldn't get them to provide links.
You could at least get their phone numbers, and phone when you get to London to see if they still exist.

A big chain of model shops called Modelzone has recently gone t**s-up. If there is still one in existence in London, they may be selling off modelling materials at up to 50% off, but like our local one, they won't be selling Scalextric cars.

If you don't know London, don't let anyone tell you that Hamley's is a good place to go.They are a bit of a curiosity because they were toy-sellers to the rich before there really were such things as toy shops. However, a clientele of wealthy Arabs, and a site right in the centre of London, mean that others have found they go in for mark-ups that would make your nose bleed!

Good luck!

Thank you for your responses!

Let´s see...
Anyway it´s a family trip and the objective it´s to have a great family time all of us, so I don´t want to stress the others or myself trying to find slot stuff . I think I can live some days whithout... hope so :? :D
