I used to work for a shop that had a an early machine, it was very cool

10 years ago the idea of custom milled slot car wheels and having our own ALPS printer for decals was a pipe dream.

10 years from today we may not need anyone to make the slot models we want. Like today where we all know a few folks who do decals, pour resin and make wheels...we will just print our own.

I can see the machines in this video in Jon's basement. He got a deal off Ebay for "retro 3D printers".

Actually, that's an idea. We should look into CAD in a different way these days. I was no longer doing engineering drafting just about the time topological and site design work in civil eng. was being done on room-sized IBM computers. At the time, I thought that if I had stayed with that, I would have to get very friendly with computers. Well, its all come full circle now. I'm going to look into CAD stuff this afternoon. I don't want to have to learn everything all at once. I have played around with CAD stuff online but never got serious about it.

What a process. That's what I was talking about. An inexpensive 3D printer can be had for a little under $2K.
Can you imagine chassis being printed, and/or repaired, using 3D parts?

The box they were using isn't $2k...and that is the problem. That higher resolution stuff so you're not dealing with massive lines is going to cost quite a bit.
