Shotgun ,
I'm not familiar with "Fun Runs" . It sounds like what we have here , referred to as Test and Tunes . Do you attend the Fun Run in person or mail your car to the race host ?
I did take a look at your tracks which look up to snuff to me . I don't have room for a permanent track . My tracks are all portable HO tracks . I race T-Jets in 3 basement/ garage racing circuits here in the upper Ohio Valley. I also race 1/24th drag cars at sparkplug Drag Strip in the Pittsburgh, Pa. area. As soon as my 1=1 hot rod is finished , I plan on building a routed oval in the garage .
My true interest however is the ruff and tumble 1/24th scale oval racing which I travel (100 miles ) , round trip . Like you , I don't do it every week . When I do , I race at Mark's Model world in Canton Ohio . Having raced 1=1 cars , I can attest that the rush is still there . The only difference is , you don't come home with black and blue marks .
If what your referring to is a person to person meeting , running and looking at cars , I could enjoy that type of thing . But to mail my car / cars to a race host , for someone else to race for me just wouldn't cut it .
Shotgun , Have you tried to invite people in to race on your track ? Being a smaller track , it would be a blast to run Jalopies , Fairground Stockers and Sprint Cars on . All you have to do is recruit some drivers and have an IROC race . An IROC race is a race where you supply the cars and controllers for each lane . The drivers rotate and all race the same cars in the same lane. The car and the controllers stay on the same lane during the race . If your invited racers see they like it , have a "Fun Run " with a seminar showing them the steps to building their own race cars .
Recruiting can be a challenge at times I know .What you can do is ask your friends , relatives , people at church and co-workers to participate .The only pre requisite is that they enjoy racing . So , they come , fun is had by all , you've had a good time , plus recruited a field of local racers to fill the vacant spots . I have found that if you garn 1 out of 5 as a serious slot car racer , you have done good . It's like any other hobby in respect recruiting just another extension of the hobby . So , staying in the recruiter mode is important until you get the number of racers that your looking for .
Well , good luck . I hope you do well . I'll think of you at our next Test and Tune .
Let me know how you do !
