Yeah, fireworks here got out of hand, too. I had a weird experience with it.
A few years ago, I had to go a few properties down the road to tell some stupid rednecks that there was a burn ban on (we had a drought that lasted a month during 100 degree weather). They were in the midst of throwing paint cans and spray cans on a bonfire after shooting the big mortar fireworks off (they cost $100 a pop, I can't imagine where these twerps got them). I told them there was a burn ban, they were unimpressed, I took out my phone and called the cops with them looking at me. When the cops got there, they were laughing and saying that the whole area was phoning them about the fireworks display they were seeing in the night sky, not because they were concerned about brushfires, but because they didn't want someone else to have fireworks if they couldn't do it. The Fire Dept showed up right behind the county cops and put out the bonfire, took the remaining fireworks and wrote summons for the fireworks and bonfire during a burn ban, and the cops wrote tickets for all kinds of stuff. I just walked home. The rednecks moved out a week later. It seems they were renting and thought they could do anything they wanted in the country. The cops came by and told me the rednecks left a load of dope debris behind when they left and the landlord called to nail them. The cops came to me to see if I knew anything. Too bad it wasn't the same cops. We could have had a big laugh.
