That's why I held it out the door for that shot with the grass behind it. Its really strange looking indoors. Much more artificial looking, like the International Orange that was used on aircraft tail sections in the late 50s and early 60s, but not quite that fluorescent.

It is a little on the bright side, but I can live with it.

Mine is in many pieces right now... :lol:

I'm thinking repaint or return as defective.

DO NOT RETURN!

I'm a Cougar fan and will buy it from you if you don't want it.

That is so you can see it on the track easier ...

Leave it to a guy with a a mean green armature for an avatar to think of that! I can't see cars with a mean green arm on the track at all, they go by so fast. That's part of why I don't do HO anymore.

Harry, did you see those asymmetrical and mysterious posts under the interior? What are those for? And does the body on yours rock forward and back without the screws in? There are some body side hooks behind the front wheel openings I've never seen before, too. By the way, if you have some Pioneer wheelsets left, they are a dead drop in fit, and the Pioneer gray mags are the correct type, as opposed to the painted up street wheels Scaley has tried to get away with.

Rob, check the Sebring pics of the car - it has what looks like these wheels / they were not changed to the 5 spoke until later in the season. Also - the color looks close enough - I have a pic that shows it close to that.

Rob, here are my answers.

1. No idea about those posts. I do know they easily disappear using a good Dremel. :)

2. Those "hooks" rest on the chassis edges to set the height. These are also NOT Dremel-proof.

According to the recent Trans-Am book, which is fascinating by the way:

"Cougars used THREE different wheels in 67 as did several other cars. At the opener in Daytona, NASCAR type double center steel wheels were used. At Sebring the optional styled aluminum wheels were tried. Later nearly all Trans-Am cars were using the American Racing magnesium five spoke wheels".

My "skunkworks" Cougar is being put back together now. I basically stripped it down and decided to experiment with setups and options. I think using different wheels is just another nice option we have to make it the way we want it. I am sort of going overboard on mine...but I can't help but try to see what I can make of it.

The Mopar on the other hand...it is safe from Mr. Dremel for now :)

I received mine today. I'm happy with the way it looks, except the front sits to high.(like the 2000 camaro) I popped the mag, cleaned up the wheels, put on PG tires and took it for a spin. Can you say "BOUNCE"? Upon inspecting found left front wheel was not true, grrrrr. This is the second Scaley car I purchased in the last 6 months with a bad wheel and a Peugeot 908 with a broken motor mount!
With the body on,the chassis doesn't sit square. Going around my track it looks crooked!! I saw the clips that were mentioned in a previous post and they are not the cause. The body snaps into the chassis and is a tight fit. With the screws real loose and the front tires off it still bounces some. All in all I'm very disappointed in the way it runs. Gonna take a lot of work to get it to run with my older Trans-Am cars. Compared to recent Carrera releases Scaley seems to be taking 2 steps back.

Man, I'm looking forward to that book. So, there were several different paint colors, eh? Sounds like a lot of cars from my era of NASCAR. When they were stock cars, you beat the fender out and repainted every time you scrunched it, resulting in loads of different changes in the looks of cars from week to week. Trans Am cars were real cars, so I guess that explains some of it. I only found one photo that looked even close to this shade in the books I have now, and it really wasn't close at all. I got a white kit, too, so I think I'll repaint as soon as Tim & Co. get back to work at Slotcars4you. They are moving house these days.

Re: Not again!?

Postby Dundee Denny » Sat Dec 21, 2013 11:02 pm

Had a few minutes to play with both the Challenger and the Cougar tonight.

My prep is M6 Prof. Motor tires and grease and oil and back on the track (and yes with magnets......)

Dundee Speedway is 123 feet w/ lots of curves and only two 11 foot burst of straights and the balance being four or five 6 foot straights at best.

That being said.............
* Challenger = 13.7
* Cougar = 13.6
* Mustang = 13.5
* Camaro = 13.5
* Mustang notch Pioneer = 13.8

The magnets (for the few that have them) is under the wheels in the two newest and just in front of in the older Camaro & Mustang, and don't know if that accounts for anything speed wise.

All very close with .1 or .2 driver error an easy give or take on any given lap. The Pioneer doesn't have the brakes the others do which may account for it being the "slowest" again if .1 difference makes something slower?

No wheel issues on either and ran great right out of the box!!!

I don't think we can compare a restored car with a model that's supposed to represent how a car looked when new forty-five years ago. Most photos from then have faded anyway. While I agree that the restored car's paintjob looks better, I can't fault Scaley yet. Of course, I don't have the car in my hands and maybe I'll change my tune when I do.

My local hobby shop still doesn't have them. I guess the little guys are lower on the list than the larger online folks. Oh well. It's forcing me to keep tuning my existing cars, what a bummer! :lol:
