What a difference a tyre change makes

Postby Dangermouse » Wed Jan 29, 2014 6:42 am

Now I know many of you know this already, and I knew it as well otherwise I wouldn't have done it. I was having a problem with a resin kit car that I am building (not the 612 it is silky) it just wasn't as smooth as I wanted and tended to hop down the straight and around corners. I was starting to look at the resin chassis and checking clearance and straightness and wondering whether it need bracing and a few other things. But after a bit of thinking I thought I will change the tyres first. So after a bit of hunting for a suitable pair I put them on and without truing or anything I ran a couple of laps - wow smoother no hop I knew I was onto something.

So onto the truer for them and the tyres of a couple of other cars. The result silky smooth running.

So many of the old hands know this already but maybe those newer to the hobby may not realise what a difference a good trued set of tyres can make. Replacing and then truing the tyres has totally transformed the 3 cars the resin kit car, my new Fly Lancia 037 rally car and my new slot.it 312 Ferrari (which was pretty smooth anyway :))

cheers
David

It's amazing what a good true pair of tires will do for a car. My main things are true tires, good axles, good bushings, and good gears. Those go a long ways to making a car smooth and quiet. :)

Had a couple of older carrera cars Le mans BMW and Audi with the sliding magnet. Shall we say a handfull to get around a corner! Anyway put indy grips on them and now have 2 nice handling cars
