9 years going. That is a long time for a series of slot cars to still be around. Carrera is still cranking them out too with two new ones on the way for Christmas. SO it was finally time to bring one of these old hammers back to life.

The best way I have found to set the front end is to shim the guide as shown. This brings it down and also tightens it up, removing almost all slop.
Then I remove the old braid & drill out the backside of the guide. When I install new braid, I just fold one edge over to double it up and insert it. You can just see the back edge of the braid.

Then I tin the new wires and insert them in the front as shown. I then reheat them and the solder flows just enough for a solid connection. It also seals the braid inside the guide nice and tight.

I radiused (sanded) the entire outside edges of the chassis. Took a trat tail file and opened up the mount holes a little and trimmed away the "cup" on the chassis where the posts mount. This frees it all up nicely.
Finally a session on the Tire Razor with Paul Gage R3 tires. These are my favorite tire for these cars now.

A bath in mild soap and water then a final polishing really cleaned this beater up.

Runs pretty good. I won't win any bigtime races, but it's smooth enough for me.
Fun stuff. I enjoy working on these older models. Just as good and as much fun as a new release for me.
