Hi Randy,
I got a little out of control (OK A lot) when I came back into slot car racing. Off the bay I bought Parma controllers that were anywhere from 4 ohm to 90 ohm and a couple of basic professor motor controllers. What I ended up finding out was that most, if not all, of the 1/32 motors including those used at commercial tracks other than high end racers responded well to between 25 and 45 ohms. 25 ohm seemed to give the best throttle response with the cars staring to move as soon as I pulled the trigger. If you could set up a 45 ohm that would toggle between that and the 25 and 35 setting that should be pretty much ideal.
If you go that route let me know what you end up with for resistors; I may try it myself.
I am currently using 25 ohm controllers on the home track.
The Professor Motor club controllers worked well also but I had to get the choke kit (I think that was what it was called) where you install bolts and nuts into the controller so that the trigger works normally. They are a good controller but don't actually feel any better than the Parmas.
As to price point, I did not pay over $13.00 for any of my controllers and many of them were under $10 dollars. If you don't want to own a whole bunch of useless controllers like me, resistors can be purchased from several of the retailers on this site for $9.99 or less.
