Another Attempt

Another attempt was made today to get information about my banking. If you get a call from OMAHA NEBRASKA 402-952-4444. It is not legitimate according to my bank. I Googled it and it appears to be a number known for this type of thing. Why don't they get nailed is my question?

If this is like most of the others, the phone number is from Omaha, but the folks are actually offshore someplace.

I've been getting a rash of emails from various "foreign" bank executives/lawyers/heirs/etc lately, many more than I'd ever seen in the past. Too bad, I could use some of that cash they promise :roll:

My mother had over 100 calls (and is still getting them), from creeps wanting to have her account info because she "won a sweepstakes". She has never been suckered into a sweepstakes. The calls come from Reno, NV, Las Vegas, NV, Los Angeles, and three numbers in Jamaica, like B.W.I. neighbors Jamaica. After she told them for the millionth time to stop calling her and hung up, he called back and yelled F*** You! and hung up. The next day, the calls started up again as though nothing happened. The FBI has tons of evidence against them and does nothing at all.

There is ok way authorities can keep up with this nonsense. In Colorado Springs the internet crimes division was 2 guys...yeah...

I rarely answer the phone. If I don't recognize the number or name on the caller ID. They can leave a message. Just let that puppy ring. :D

We keep an "ACME Thunderer"(yes,really - made in England,too), referee's whistle next to the phone.

Doubt if it causes damage, but certainly gives the b******s a nasty surprise.

Fortunately we don't have to deal with so many of these scamming calls yet. Currently it is just legitimate(?) attempts to sell insurance, or ink cartridges, or change electricity or telephone suppliers, etc... But operating a business from hone we can't afford to use the non-answering tactic. It's a PitA. Sometimes it seems like every 5 minutes there's a call from another call centre.

Got a call from my ex last night (we're on good terms). She got a letter from the VA (she's a vet, too) stating that she owed them $145.00 and if she didn't call at once to resolve the matter they were going to notify the IRS and Social Security to get their money. Now the very next paragraph starts: "We apologize if this is the first time you've heard of this debt.....".
I told her to call the VA on Monday, not the phone number in the letter and tell them what she had; if it was legitimate they would resolve it and if it wasn't they would tell her that too.
The slugs appear to be coming out of the woodwork!

The one I want to beat is the Kirby Vacuum Cleaner salesman who sold my mother a $1600 vacuum. Legal? Yes. Immoral? Don't show up at my door.

Scammers are jerks to say the least. If you have someone pass away in your immediate family it doesn't take long for the sharks to start circling. I got calls saying my late wife owed money to some of them and they wanted payment. I told them to take it up with her, and I didn't have anything to do with it. After 6-7 months the calls finally stopped. :)
