good use for unused magnets

Postby btaylor » Mon Apr 21, 2014 3:15 am

This may have been done before, but had not seen it yet.
while wiring up my oval, and having six controllers hanging from the almost built driver stations, we have been racing on the unfinished track.
I found that since I had no shelf built yet,all controllers were either layed on the table itself,or left hanging from there cords.
Now for the magnets, I have square tube metal framework to mount my wood to,AH HA! Hot glue unused car magnets to the top or side of the controllers and just stick them to the metal frame!
I know most folks have wood frames for there base's,but a simple metal plate screwed to the wood would do the same thing.
works for me,thought I would share.

Oops. I'm caught. That's what I do with them.

I put mine on my workbench worklight arm, and hang small tools from them like screwdrivers and allen keys.
Keeps them at hand but up off the bench, and is great for picking up small metal parts like screws as it magnetizes the screwdriver tip.

I have a couple attached to the end of a long piece of string that I occasionally use to go "fishing" for paint cans that have fallen between the work bench and the wall. The gap is necessary due to power cables into the outlet behind the bench.

Others are attached to the end of my "Pokey Stick (tm)" which is useful for removing and retrieving screws and things from the track And for metal hunting on the floor beneath my work desk.

Still others are stored on the fridge against future need for chassis flattening.

I like RM's - the ladybug especially.

Here's what I did though: I sold them - people are always looking for them in bulk.

I use mine for chassis straightening which I don't do much of anymore. I'm addicted to brass now. :D
