I always enjoyed Tom Wojahn's cartoons in the old (60's-70's) model/slot car magazines.
This one is kinda prophetic, if you look at some of the controllers in use today, particularly at commercial raceways!

I love the old slot car cartoons. I like the explosive handle on top. I'd swear Jeremy has one and that he nails it everytime he passes me just to nerf me off...

I remember his cartoons in magazines in the '60's. Just pure humor. Now Model Cars magazine put slot car cartoons in their fine publication now and then. :)

That cartoon is hilarious.

A good friend of mine has always had one of those high tech type controllers that hook to the side of a slot car track and when the power is turned on, sounds like the Space Shuttle warming up prior to launch. Heck, it even has a voltage display of the track's power.

He had been teased repeatedly about having a battery box concealed in all the techno-wizardry.

Than it happened.

Once day we were out racing at a commercial track and a track call was in effect. 7 of the 8 cars stopped. I think the one lane's power relay did not interrupt the power to the lane and guess who was in that lane? He is still living down all the razzing he hit with from that incident.

Yes, I did forward a copy of this cartoon to him.

Rob, I was an avid reader of CARtoons magazine back in the '60's along with Model Car Science, and Car Model. Both of the latter had numerous articles and advertisements on slot cars, besides the normal model car stuff. What good memories I have of them. :)

NJ based artist and creator of <slotcarthrillart.com> fame Bob Hardin used to draw for CARtoons magazine in the 1980's.
Check out his great full color portfolio online, or if you're in the area, he'll most probably be with the other vendors and myself at
the PARSIPPANY SLOT CAR SHOW in the PAL building, 33 Baldwin Rd., Parsippany, NJ this coming Sunday, May 18, 9am-2pm.
Much of his work is geared toward the HO slot scene, but some of it applies to all scales. I've been a customer since his first three pieces.

I still have one CARtoons, a small stack of Model Car Science, a better stack of Car Model, and one issue of Model Car Racing and [something]. A few years ago, I found a guy who had scanned every page and cover of Car Model from the little folded 8 inch magazine to the very last issue. I bought the set, a stack of CDs, from him and they are lots of fun to look at. The advertisements are the best, along with the reviews of nifty new things like silicone tires and Mabuchi motors.
