Have you ever seen that video of a B-58 Hustler catching fire as it tales off and flying 14 hours to a place with 2 miles of foam for the runway? Its from 1961. A student flight!

That's the one. Back when Wings Channel was good, History Channel was about history, Discovery, Learning and Science Channels were about science, that video used to surface from time to time as a filler to keep the schedule on time.

DR, you and the "Lt" enjoy yourselves. See if any of the XC-99 parts are outside over by the restoration hangars. The XC-99 was the one-off cargo derivative of the B-36, word was they had brought from Kelly AFB, Tx.

Dave, after the F-4, the KC/EC-135 was the plane I worked on the most. I think they lost some of their "flavor" when they replaced the water injection engines with the CFM-56s.......more efficient and powerful but no longer the loudest USAF aircraft on take off.

I've been there but it was a long long time ago. They were flying B-52s then. Ooops, they are still flying them. :D

No worries here! Many of you have more knowledge or history with these fantastic planes. I love the stories! A few more and I'll post back later!

Can you name every plane in those shots? I am a little mystified by a piece of a B-47...

You really think the KC-135 was the loudest, Sarge? Ever stand close to a B-25? I thought our P-51D was loud until I got within 100 feet of the Mitchell. Ironic, because my uncle died in the nose of a B-25 (WWII). By the time I heard one, I was an old hand at warbirds and didn't expect it. That airplane is louder than a B-24 Liberator by a long shot. I heard years ago that there was a prototype Navy fighter jet that couldn't be quieted down enough for carrier duty and was scrapped. I never looked into it.

Also, there are a P-47 Thunderbolt, a Stealth bomber, a C-100 Hercules, and the tail of an X-3 Stiletto!

This is why no one wants to go to that museum with me. I need a muzzle. I admit it.

Is that an A-26 canopy behind the guys by the MIG Alley sign? I don't know why I didn't type in the Shuttle. Come to think of it, what is that thing up in the air behind David? A Bomark? I still can't find the U-2, but there is a very familiar wing profile just to the newbie Lt.'s left elbow. I can't figure that out.
