I didn't get as many pics as last time. We were enjoying just getting to look at everything and spending time with the Lt. We did go to the Presidential and R&D wing but didn't make it to the restoration again. A massive rainstorm came in, so I didn't get out to the Tarmac to see the KC. We are going back to do that and the memorial park tho. So many planes that I love in this place.



















The noisy plane mentioned earlier? Was it the Thunderscreech?

AH you got the Lt next to my baby, Robin Olds F-4C :D

Every time I visit the museum I pause a long time around any of the F-4s. Guess that comes from being an old "Phantom Phyxer".

I hate to quibble guys but the plane in the background is a C-133 Cargomaster built by Douglas, the Air Force's only turboprop strategic airlifter (the C-130 is considered tactical). They only built around 50 of them and it was problem ridden throughout it's service life.

I believe the B-47 is an RB-47 (fatter nose).

DR I noticed you made it over to the Presidential and R&D hangars on the Wright Field flightline; almost as good as the main museum!

BTW - my neighbor is a retired pilot and believes he's flow ln this exact F4.

All great Shots but I have to ask: what is the silver saucer shaped thing with "air force" on it. Never seen one before. Was it actually something that was flown? Or is just a joke by somebody in the air force?

Inquiring minds want to know.

It is an Avrocar - a failed saucer experiment that only went 35 mph and 3 feet off the ground. Cool tho!

It was like a flapjack that wouldn't land in the pan after flipping it, and it more or less flew like that, too. Imagine a quarter that lands on a table and wibble-wabbles for a while before settling down. I never could figure out what there was to be gained from that thing. As a floating observation deck, it would attract enemy fire, as an ambulance it would require that all wounded lie on large flat areas, etc.

Ramstein had 4 of these loaded to the gills in the Zulu area. I worked summer hire with the CES shop and was in that hanger a bunch. Nothing like having a guy with an M16 watching you take a leak. Nukes do that...

I've flown in the F4 simulators that Ramstein had as part of my aviation merit badge. Very cool. Got to see the SR-71 take off in full darkness too while in the tower there. Loved every minute of it!

Marty - get it on your bucket list pronto!

Just spent 3 hours in the memorial gardens at the museum reading all the markers. We then visited the Tarmac area and the flight tower and Neissen Huts there.

We then went to the Wright National Park area - nobody visits it and it is very educational!
