Where do you race

Postby Kemtronracer » Mon Jun 09, 2014 12:48 pm

I often see posts showing off someone's recent track build, or see race results from a certain track; but all too often I don't see a city or town mentioned. The best way to grow this hobby is to post such information so nearby interested parties can find you. So my question for everybody is:
"In what city do you race and what are the names of the tracks where you race?"

I'll start things off: I race at Zombie Speedway East in Mooresville, NC. I also race at three different tracks in Winston-Salem, NC: Laguna Trace Raceway, O.F.I. and Buena Vista Motorsports.

Oh, you mean like filling out your location in your profile?

That way, folks can easily find you.

Works for me.

I live in Pitt Meadows, which is part of Greater Vancouver, BC. so I race with the GVSCC. The club is centred around our wood track guru, Luf Linkert. Luf has two tracks in his garage, the famous Targa and the Burnaby Grind Hill-climb. We race at his place in Burnaby every Friday night with two sets on the Targa and a round on the hill. We also race on Mondays either at Luf's or one of the other club tracks. Luf makes his tracks available for test and tune on Wednesday evenings. We also host several proxy series each year.

Several members have tracks at home and we rotate through them each series.

Don has a technical three lane track in his attic.
Perry has two three lane tracks in his garage.
Doug has a three lane track in a designated garage.
Roger has a large four lane track in his garage.

There a couple of other tracks that are owned by club members, and also some in the planning stage.

This club brought me back to slot racing three years ago after a 44 year absence.

Cheers!

At present, the majority of my racing is 1:32 scale racing. I do this at the club I belong to, DeBary Glen Raceways in DeBary, Florida. We have both MDF and plastic tracks in our club, so you can get your fill of any surface that you like.

When I race 1:43 scale stuff, I do that right at my home on "Martin's-Ville Raceway". This is a 4 lane Carrera "GO" track equipped with an adjustable power supply and commercial style driver's stations so you can use just about any controller know to man.

If I choose to go and do some retro racing, then I join up with a group that I started a few years ago, the Gator Region Retro Racers. We race IRRL rules at locations around Florida and Georgia. This is 1:24 scale racing using all hand built chassis and lexan bodies.

Presently I am not racing HO, but who knows?

Thanks for the replies so far. And thank you Marty for pointing out that my location wasn't part of my post. It only took a few minutes to figure out how to fix that.

Kemtronracer,

The location is just so important. We see all these things on HRW and if the location is not there, why then you have to ask the person where they're from. From the location, I've hooked up with several folks from my area that I did not even know where into racing 1:32 and 1:43 cars on home tracks.

We are our own worst enemy from time to time.

Glad I could get you on the straight and narrow.

Let's go racing! And bring others with us.

The old site was on YUKU, which was at best, primitive by comparison to this Cadillac. That had to curious effect of making a lot of the ancillary items on the site easier to operate. These days, sites like this one are the rule, and the elementary school level sites like YUKU are fading out. So, we are all either learning to operate this kind of site fairly easily, or we breeze through because this is what we're used to. I've been watching, and I see that fewer people start out on this site with a full profile, but more people go back and fill it in in a short time, resulting in an overall greater participation on the site, profile and all. I can't thank Harry enough for the humongous amount of work it took to accomplish this change. Just thought I'd throw that in.

I used to race every Saturday on one of five tracks, two of which were at the same house. Things change, and I race at home, alone, these days. We raced GT, LMP, vintage NASCAR, hot rods, modifieds, go karts, and some other cars, all with mild or stock motors. A large number of folks joined our little group, and they all wanted a different kind of racing than we had done, and nothing else. One by one, our group just slipped away, and I barely know any of the folks in that group now. Two of our guys don't mess with slot cars at all anymore, two are occasional participants with that group, and two are like me, but they don't have tracks at home. Another died recently. The two who no longer do slot cars had two of our tracks, and one of the guys who is still occasionally with the new group has two more of our tracks. That leaves my track and one person besides me, who works like a slave all the time, and I never see him.

The old track I restored has a problem. The paint is rejecting the copper tape, and I will have to re-tape the whole thing with fresher tape after a repaint. I hope to get some of the folks from our original group over here for a slotburger menu they can't refuse and try to get things going again, but everything is on hold while I get my health back, or at least stable. If I get this thing to happen, I'll post a huge array of pictures. Here's hopin'.

I have 2 tracks (in house) and run time trials on Trans Am and Can Am on one track and midgets on the other one. Quite a wide variety of interests. Retied from southern Californian in 04 and moved to a more quieter place to live ,

Charlie,

I wish to join you as well. I have this neurosurgeon that has me on a short leash. Not my choice, but my wife's! She has no give at all in the rules.

Once I get off restrictions, I will be there.
