building a 1/43rd dragstrip

much scrap MDF has accumulated in the basement, so i decided to do something interesting with it.
In the end i cutted down 9.5m (app. 28ft) of dragstrip. Cutted the slots with the circular saw, slot size is the same as on the desmo, 70mm slot distance, a little more than on the desmo (60mm). track will have latex paint and copper tape.
When i started in this forum, there has been a discussion about a dragstrip - the shifter. As the old forum is not online anymore, i can´t verify the old discussion.

what would be the best distances between the feeding points? I´m planning to do 4 segments, first segment with 9 diodes, 2nd segment 6 diodes, 3rd segment 3 diodes, last segment full speed. I will do the shifting with 3 position switch (on-off-on), for first gear up, 2nd down, 3rd up again and for forth gear down again.

so, big question for me - how long should i make the segments?

latex paint or blackboard paint? have both paints left and can´t decide.

Hi Peter,Sounds like a fun project.Slotcardan did try something kinda like what you are talking about with HO..I did a drag strip with shift points also in 1/43 .With my set up we just wired the track so that power was only available to the select track sections if you were in the correct gear with the shifter.Worked well,lot's of wiring though.We also had it where you could reverse with a double throw type switch.here is the link,as Harry was kind enough to allow me to be one of the 1st post on the site.

how long are your segments?

I will have to check.I just kinda split her up into equal segments with the space that I had.You will find that with my shorter track and too much power you will not have time to shift..The one reason I used ol' strombecker track as so that we could use mags.Tons easier for reverse and tended to keep the cars on the track as one is shifting..But after saying all that,I'm eager to check out your track build .It will be much smoother,much smoother..

the dragstrip will only be mobile, not installed permanently, no room for setting it up all the time here, too.

found shifter controller on the bay, thanks to 007, but i think i need to rewire them. will report when they arrive :)
