Alright guys, I am showing you this so you can back out of the race, I KNOW none of you want any of this bad boy right here!
Face it, the slingshot class is sewn up! Those that know me, can attest to the fact that I am crazy about Strombecker cars. I won this for a song on the bay, and just had to share it. and it even runs!

How cool!!! I knew that Eldon made dragsters - but didn't realize that Strombecker did as well?!?

Couple questions...
1) How do you plan on stopping the cars? Drag strips use a lake of tire glue to stop them. This will take a long time to clean the cars between runs.
2) Except the LSR cars, these are all quarter mile appearing cars?
3) Can you set me up for the LSR class? I might be able to make something else...

Foamy -
1) The first two tracks are set up with shorted braid shut down areas. I am not sure about the second track on the schedule - but the first track definitely does not have a lot of glue - it is light glue at best. However, that being said, to help insure consistency, we plan to clean the tires of each car prior to each run - just like we did with the P-BOP cars. (That seemed to work very well for those cars)
I am not sure of the glue level in the shut down area of the second track, but with having a minimum of APalmer, Slot Therapist and myself running these at these first two venues, we should be able to keep everything clean and consistent. :)
On the third track, I am guessing there will be no glue of any sorts - just a shorted shutdown area - but more details will follow on it...

2) Yes - with the exception of the Land Speed category - the cars should appear ready to hit the staging lanes for a blast down the quarter mile. :)

3) Happy to add you to the list for the LSR class! If you come up with any addition ones you want to jump in on - just let me know! :banana-dance:
Thanks!

The classes and associated motors are now "formalized"
Please note that there has been an expansion of the Land Speed class to add a Class B division - that class will use the lower power Piranha 21,500rpm motor.
Thanks!

Woohoo! We're off to the Drags!

I will be campaigning my Fiat Topolino, blown Hemi powered gasser, and a 1953 Studebaker Class B LSR car. I might have added a hot rod or rat rod, but i have too many other commitment to other proxies, both builds and running races.

By the way, what voltage are these going to run at?

This is going to be fun. There is a possibility we may have access to a drag strip up here if there is interest in sending the cars to a "Canadian Nationals" event. If so, I can explore the possibility and get back to you.

Cheers,

Keith

Keith - look forward to seeing the builds!!! :D

Track voltage for both of the tracks here is 12 volts (and would assume that it will be the same at Sun City Drag Strip as well)

Canadian Nations event?
That could be pretty sweet! :D
If you want to look into it and let me know - I'd appreciate it! :handgestures-thumbup:

Ok... we have the motors decided upon...

Now, if I may ask for all those who have never built a car specifically for drag racing...

Using the Piranha motor, what range for a gear ratio should we aim for? And is there an optimal tire height?
Obviously, the 2 should work together, so if any of you experienced builders could provide some guidance, it would be much appreciated :auto-driving:

You guys may have seen this video on my other post, but that was done with Pg tires 22mm tall and 9/27 gears. I have not weighed the car yet, but with a 4" wheelbase, and a lot of frontal area ahead of the motor, it will pull nice holeshots with the wheels in the air for about three feet. If i was to have kept this gear combo, wheelie bars, and a drop arm for the guide would be a must!
