Great pictures. Missed the bottom shot of the #917. Great looking bunch of cars and execution of builds. I've got to get better.
Seems I have a heavy weight compared to the top 10. I get confused with the gearing terms shorter vs taller. Statement said appears to be geared shorter than the others. It is geared 2.83 so should it have been a higher or lower number. Since it ran out of speed on the long straights I would think you mean it should have been maybe 2.62. Is that correct?

Arrold - Thank you for catching that missing picture - I will get it added!
In regard to the gearing, "short" or "steep" gearing typically is tied to high numerical values - as an example 4.11's are "short" / "steep" gears - where as "tall", etc are tied more with long legged, highway, high speed type gearing - as an example 2.41's.
Hopefully that helps clarify it. :)

Hi Arrold, as Tood has said, the lower the gear ratio number, the taller the gearing; the higher the gear ratio number, the shorter the gearing. Your example is correct: 2 62 is taller than 2 83.

But, it's not just the gearing, it's the way the motor related to the gearing, to the chassis, to the track, etc. There is no formula; only testing will give you the answer to whether or not your car is properly geared.

Thanks for the pics looks like the #917 has some grainig of the left rear, it will be interesting to see how it holds up as we move forward through the series.

Thanks Todd and Allan,
Like said sounds like I should have gone lower numerically. I only have a short oval to test on so I'm not sure if my testing on it is conducive to the real world were right and left hand turns plus esses play into the setup. Trial and error follow the big dogs if gearing is posted and hope for a better car the following year.

Arrold: I wouldn't be overly concerned about the gearing. MMW will probably be the fastest track with the longest straights of any we run this thing on. My 2C had the same problem according to the notes, but it will be quicker when we get to the twistier shorter tracks. When a proxy is set to run on commercial and club tracks, you are almost guaranteed to have some runs that are too tall or too short. Unless your motor is a dog, 2.8 should be fine.

It is the same with tires. You might hook up perfectly on one track and fishtail all over the place on another. It often depends what types of tire compound have been used on the track before the race, but don't let me get going on that one or I'll jack the thread.

Cheers,

Keith

Thanks Keith,
Just trying to find a way to build a better mouse trap. I know everyone can't get on the podium. Just trying to get into the top 10.

Sorry for the delay gents - had to go back and verify a couple of the finishing segments for tie breakers.

Congrats to our podium finishers!

Thanks for the results and congratulations to the top finishers.

Though my car is quick, it's very light and is a real handful to drive consistently. Going to the more twisty circuits will be even more of a challenge. Hoping for better results but fearing that this may be its best finish.
