Well 1st round is in the books and what a difference a day makes. The track was like driving on ice today. The Porsches were just plain brutal today but the problem was putting all that new found power to the ground. One car had to have different tires to put on it was so bad.
RSR Bertulli Vs C6 Vodafone
1st Race:
Bertulli was struggling out of the gate. Tires would not grab at all. The power was there but it was too much for the track to handle. With 1 tire failure during the race it was one of the cleanest races of the day.
24.9 laps with best lap 10.889
Vodafone was a little down on power but the handling was great allowing for an easy drive. However it was plagued with mishaps. 2 Tire failures, 1 brake failure and a 1 mechanical failure. Luckily even with the failures the easy driving nature allowed for a squeaky win.
25.3 laps with a best of 10.537.
Winner Vadofone
2nd Race:
Bertulli was so disappointed with his car he had the tires changed for the 2nd race. The tires inproved traction greatly but was still loose at the upper limits. With the power now being sent to the ground they encounted 2 tire and 2 brake failures hurting their overall time.
25.8 laps with a best of 10.136
Vadofone was confident in his first win went back out and ran another consistant race. Power is still down but the mechanical failures were limited to 1 tire and 2 brake failures.
26.7 laps with a best of 10.432
Overall Winner Vadofone
RSR Gulf Vs C7 Chevrolet Racing
1st Race:
Gulf was fast out of the gate and never looked back. It was a tough drive at the upper limits causing a couple of close calls almost running off the road but they held on to it. With only 1 brake failure they were feeling good about themselves.
27.5 laps with best of 10.433
The C7 had it's challenges but was well planted only drifting at the extreme edges. Chevrolet had a few issues though that needed to be sorted out. They had 1 tire, 2 brake and 1 mechanical failure keeping them from the winners circle.
26.6 laps with a best of 10.369
Winner Gulf
2nd Race:
The Gulf team got their act together and found some more power and put together some impressive times even with a little loss in traction. However the added power cause some issues with 2 tire failures, 1 brake failure and the dreaded mechanical failure which hurt overall.
26.5 laps with a best of 10.053
Chevrolet kept things the same and tried driving a little more cautiously to try and keep breakage down. They were still plagued with a brake and a mechanical failure but the tires held together long enough to eek out the win.
26.7 laps with a best of 10.336
Winner C7
3rd Race:
Gulf pulled out all the stops and ran an almost flawless race with only 1 tire failure
29.75 laps with a best of 9.931 :o
Chevrolet only hope to beat the Gulf would be to run a clean race and push the car. It looked like the C7 might pull it off as a little bit of extra speed was found but a blown tire in the last 10 secs sent them into the pits and ruined any chances for a win.
28.3 laps with a best of 10.152.
Overall Winner Gulf
