Nice to know a road like that is still around. I just loved to just take off down a strange road in my youth. You got to see how well you have done with your car, back when cars were understandable. Open it up, and hear the engine sing. Those were the days.
I took off down a brand new very straight road in Florida many years ago, and there were almost no signs on it. Later, I found out that road is known as "Alligator Alley", and is now loaded with signs warning you that alligators sun themselves on that road a lot and going fast is virtually suicide. Even with that in my history, I took off down a strangely lonely, very straight road in New Mexico once, and saw things I couldn't believe existed, like several square miles of huge chunks of black volcanic glass with the road running right through it (Valley of the Fires), and the missile range just down the road from it, and the actual site of the Lincoln County Wars, still standing after all these years.
